1998 to 01 rearend

Will a 1998 8.8 rear end fit a 01 stang? i'm asking this my cusin has a extra 8.8 and he said if it fits he will give it to me free.

BUMP

Redrum 03-12-2009 11:29 AM

it can't

It will work, and the 99+ rear axles I believe are just a little bit wider ~1/4-1/2 inch, not completely sure.

Edit: Why won't it? (You Ninja posted)

lol ya it's slow at work have the time

it will bolt right in, but it will be short then the 99-04 rear end like he said. No big deal though and a free 8.8 for a v6 car sweet. I say go for it for sure.

would it look wrong like the front wide and the back is not? is it that much of a difference?

engineman312 03-12-2009 06:39 PM

its like a 1/2" difference on each side. you won't be able to notice it at all. however u may have the tiniest amount of swaying from your rear wen you hit a bump or turn. simple way to offset that is with some wider tires (DO NOT USE SPACERS) AND SOME CONTROL ARMS.

Yeah the difference is pretty much not noticeable. I didn't even know there was a difference till my autocross coach was talking about fitting some 315 race tires at each corner and said something about it possibly rubbing. I told him that he shouldn't have any problem since people run 315 tires all the time and then he stated that the rear axle on his car ('98 Cobra) is narrower than my car.

Why no spacers? When done properly, they will not cause any issues.

right now i have 315/35/17 on the back so that should help it not to sway that much?

free 8.8 rear end FTW!!!!!

Hub-centric spacers are perfectly safe when used correctly. I don't know of any racing that doesn't allow them.
