Off-road or catted??

Ok so my next thing is getting a new mid-pipe. I have an off-road x on the Cobra and I love it. But, I don't know what brand I bought for it, I want to say it's UPR. I know that with the Cobra there is a HUGE sound difference between high-flow cats and off-road.

Should I just stick with the off-road on GT?? I do like the sound a lot, and I don't mind having to put the factory exhaust on there for the emissions test. Plus, the off-road is cheaper and I know that later on once I decide to put the blower on it'll make a bigger difference.

What do you guys think??

if you dont mind putting the factory exhaust on there for the emissions test then get the off road x.

OFF ROAD FTW

I knew you'd say that.....lol.

3.8LMustang 01-19-2009 12:58 PM

lol but yes if you dont have anybody to pass expection for ya then i would get catted

Lazerred6 01-19-2009 01:02 PM

I'm glad that Michigan doesn't have stupid emission laws all I have to worry about is noise violations

3.8LMustang 01-19-2009 01:04 PM

^^^so then you just have mufflers right

SeanStang 01-19-2009 01:09 PM

Off road H.

King 01-19-2009 01:14 PM

No emmisions = O/R H-pipe, Emmisions = highflow cats

Lazerred6 01-19-2009 03:12 PM

I don't even have mufflers

08mustang_gt 01-19-2009 07:32 PM

My ex's dad owns one of the inspection shops and could just give me a sticker and say i passed.....sooo I think I'll just get the O/R

But H-pipe?? I never really liked h-pipes....

Stick w/ catted. The gains from going catless are so minimal and the fact still remains that cats do a good job in cleaning up the emissions (especially smog).

+1 4 or 5 hp really isn't worth it

Slim03GT 01-22-2009 08:48 PM

Off road x sounds demonic with a good set of mufflers. also have to think about how strict emissons are gonna be. I live in Maryland. Once the car is inspected the first time, thats it. I know in Deleware you have to get your car inspected every 6 months which could make for a hassel if you have no cats. All in all, i vote off road x.

Emissions is a federal law. Whether the state chooses to enforce it, thats one thing, BUT you can still be given a ticket if the lucky cop to pull you over chooses to enforce the law.

He can't tell anyways because my car sits too low...lol =]

Plus, my girlfriends dad is CIA and his brother is the town's sheriff. Got connections I guess....

King 01-24-2009 11:11 PM

If I were CIA, I wouldn't go around announcing it to everyone I know...but that's just what I would do, and that guy and I most definitely are not the same person I guess. Anyway, I prefer H-pipes because X's seem to raspy for me. H-pipes seem to give it a deeper grumble, and that's something I prefer. To each his own, always do what you like because you're the one that has to pay (not to mention live) with it.

08mustang_gt 01-25-2009 05:40 AM

Haha I figured he would be super secretive about it but idk....I guess he figured I'd find out eventually.

Who even makes a O/R H-pipe?? I know UPR has the X, but I haven't seen anyone so far with H.

bbk, mac, etc...there are plenty out there. Go for high flows...in the long run its better to have them.

+1 i put high flows in my cobra and really isnt much of a sound loss and it keeps my hobby legal, h-pipe definately gives the muscle sound i was lookin for.

audikillsbmw 04-16-2009 08:55 PM

Catted. One less thing you have to do come inspection time. And like others said, the extra 5hp from an open setup isn't worth it.

08mustang_gt 04-16-2009 09:01 PM

This is SOOOOO old.....I bought the O/R X-pipe already lol....

how EPIC...

audikillsbmw 04-16-2009 09:04 PM

LOL.. I'm not the one that dug it up. To be honest though I didn't notice the date of the first post until now :p

Hahaha no no it's totally cool. I would've done the same thing. =]

mustangman95gt 04-17-2009 05:31 PM

stick with the off-road

r3dn3ck 04-18-2009 09:53 AM

catted... off-road is only bad for the environment. You're not losing enough to worry about with cats and you're actually doing the 1 helpful thing for the environment you can when you do use them. 4hp is not worth the stink much less the smog ticket.

audikillsbmw 04-18-2009 11:42 AM

Indeed. I can always tell when I'm driving behind a car without cats.. Gotta love that nasty sulfur smell.

08mustang_gt 04-18-2009 11:18 PM

Too-late. The whole point of the exhaust was to get the sound I wanted. Catted x-pipes do almost nothing for me. The one i had was actually MORE QUIET than the stock h-pipe. Plus I like the smell of excess fuel along with the back fire associated with the excess fuel.

It'd be like if I bought short-tube headers when they were more expensive than long-tubes. 1) LTs are better 2) they sound better. Same goes for O/R. Plus cats eventually go bad anyways, so why not skip the whole damn thing?
