hey guys, just now starting to put a couple mods on my stang, been kina tight with money lately just started college, but i put in a K n N filter last month b/c i heard cai are not really worth the cost, but then last week i put in the steeda short throw shifter and i love it, but now i just ordered the steeda underdrive pulleys they should be in next week, i was mostly just wondering how much rwh they will add if any, and do they make a noticable differnce in mpg or acceleration? thanks

 

I think the numbers are 4-5hp gains for 99-04 GTs, but I could be wrong. As for rwhp, you'd be really lucky to get a +1rwhp gain. And you probably won't notice anything really different in acceleration.
However, that was just my biased opinion against UDPs.

for 200 bucks, get springs... come on..lower springs > UDP any day of the year.

 

gears and/or tuner would be perfect for you then. Better acceleration, and fuel mileage (if you don't do a ton of highway driving). But if you go the gear route, get the bearing kit. It's something you can do at home, but if you're only an intermediate installer, you might have someone install that for you.

 

Yea i really have been considering lowering springs, i helped my buddy lower his GT a couple months ago it looks tight, so yea that will be coming fairly soon also

well i do a pretty good bit of highway driving a 3 hour drive home every weekend and back, so i know for sure i dont want 410s, but im hoping 373s wont kill me on gas im guessing i would run like 2300 rpms at 70? not too sure

 

but yea not too sure on how to install gears yet but will deffinitely figure it out b/c dont have the money to get installed lol, my car only has 30,000 miles on it so im thinking i may be able to get away with an easier install since i wont have to replace the bearings, or maybe i should just to be safe i dont know yet

 

Always get the bearings.

 

You don't need to replace the bearings every time and with that amount of miles there is no reason to. If you haven't done it yet when you installed your K&N filter pull the rubber intake silencer out of the fender well that connects to the plastic air box (just pulls right off).

 

Always replace the bearings when you change a gear. A friend of mine put a gear in his but didn't kit the bearing kit and ended up tearing up his entire rear end. If you get any little piece of dirt or anything in there your screwed not to mention if you mess up the bearing pulling it out. So I'd agree with King to just go ahead and get the bearing kit when you get the gear. I'd also recommend getting a tuner Predator or XCal either is fine, it'll help out gas mileage and boost hp/tq a pretty good amount as well.

 

Just to set the record straight I'm talking about getting a full bearing kit. You can use just the basic install kit with comes with new carrier bearings etc... for cars with lower mileage you don't need the full master install kit.

 

I guess I should've been move specific when I said bearing kit. I meant the basic install kit that AM sells.

doing a gear swap is really involved. you need a dial indicator and steady hands. i would pay someone else to do it or work along side a buddy who's done it before. one mistake and your 200$ gears tear each other to shreads.

 

well damn really? well right now payin some1 to do anything to my car is outa the question, i barely have the money to buy the parts haha, but yea ill try to find a buddy who has done it or keep searchin for some good instructions
