Crap! RULE #1: Never modify the MAF. He should not drive the car until the MAF is repaired or replaced. The device is extremely sensitive and controls exactly how the car adds fuel. ANY CHANGES made to a MAF require a tune on a dyno. The only acceptible mod to a MAF, is to remove the screen, but even doing this is borderline as it will make the car run lean...sometimes too lean.

What did he cut out? I can't imagine anybody taking anything out of the MAF (besides the screen). Did he by chance remove the sample tube? If he did, he is lucky that the motor is not ruined.

If you need more specifics, I would be happy to PM my phone number to you and you can give me a call.

no the tube is still there the part he cut out is a hollow peice of plastic that the sample tube sits inside, it looks like it directs air flow to the sample tube. how does it work less air more fuel or the opposite? yeah it would be bad considering he drives a BULLITT

Bingo! That is the problem. You can't that out. It is designed to create laminar flow to the MAF sensor at the correct velocity. W/o it, there is no way the car will run properly.

What the heck was your buddy thinking? He is somewhat lucky to still have a motor.

The stock maf is good for close to 400 hp. No need to mess with it. He needs to get a new one from Ford.
