ac failure?cost?
 

so i have noticed that my AC (just cold air) has more or less stopped working. The air is not cold but not hot. Called ford and they said that i have a leak in the system. Is that gonna fuck my bank account over? lol

a/c work is usually rather costly. could be a simple o-ring and the cost of refilling it they will add their labor and it will prob be around 100 bucks. if they have to replace parts it usually winds up being a lot more like 500-800 bucks. just depends. u won't know till they pinpoint the problem though. good luck-i am having a/c problems too and i have to wait it out till i get some money together:mad:

Not neccesarily, you may just need a recharge. You can do it yourself if you want, just go to an auto part store and get a can or two of refrigerent and a hose. Follow the directions on the can and its pretty easy. Make sure you get the refrigerent with the flourescent dye. This way if you do have a leak the dye will leak out and will show up with a UV light. This is all very easy and will save you some $$.

It all depends
If it is the TXV (Thermal eXpansion Valve)
or the Orifis tube it wont be that expensive around $30-50
but if its anything like a compressor, evaporator, condensor
it can get a bit costly
Like (99 stang) said u can spend the $40 on the recharge bottle of R134a aka refrigerant which is kind of a tempory fix (if in fact you do have a leak)
My Recomendation to try and same u money in the long run would be to take it to a place where they and hook it up and do what is called an Evac/Recharge which is where they would hook it up and put you System under pressure and will give you a clear answer
and for that im not sure on a price but would typically be arround $100 or so

sounded like he plans on taking it to the shop that's why i threw out the figures i did.

i think i am just gonna wait because im not gonna be needing any cold air when the fall starts in a little bit. It does do everything else the way it should just doesnt shoot out coooooold air

Never get your AC repair in the winter since you dont use it, you will not be able to tell if its been repaired or not. I would just get two bottles with dye and recharge the system myself. It may be a really small leak so it may last you a while. Usually as time passes the leak gets bigger and you have to recharge more often but at least with the dye the leak will be seen with an ultra violet light and youll know what your dealing with.

I just had the same problem. All you have to do is take it to a shop to see if you have any freon in the system. My a/c quit working also. I thought I had a leak, but my system was fully charged when I checked it. Well come to find out it was a constant relay module that went out. Only cost me a couple of hundred. I was glad it wasnt a leak.
