New 2004 Mustang GT

Hey all my name is Alex and i just bought a 2004 mustang GT a few days ago. I am new to mustangs and cars in general, i know a little about them but nothing major. So here is my real question; what are good add ons to increase HP and Torque. The car already has steeda exhaust and FIPK K&N air intake which runs into something called Dragon i think thats the throttle body right?? Anyway i will take all suggestions in and would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks Everyone
PEACE

If it were me, first thing I'd do is a JLT Cold Air Intake, BBK 78mm Throttle Body, 4.10 gears and Pro 5.0 shifter for the T-3650 trans. I forget if the 2004 GT already has the 60lb injectors or not, but if not, those would be a nice touch too, IMO.

Stock injector size is 21/22 lbs/hr. As for a 78mm TB, that is way, way to big for a pretty much stock engine and something of that size is even too big for a little 281 even w/ FI.

As for what to do to increase hp and tq, nothing will do it like cams, heads, and headers. Otherwise, stick w/ gears (at least 3.73s) and suspension mods.

nothing will increase hp/tq as much as a supercharger.

if you go to modularpowerhouse.com, they sell what is called a Mongoose Kit. Its a Supercharger kit that has everything you need to get it running; Bigger Fuel Injecters, Fuel Pump, Supercharger, and a well tuned "handheld tuner" that is pretty much dead on. usually, out of the box they net about 380-400 hp.

do not push more than 400hp on any stock Mustang GT engine. you will start to break stuff, adn once you hit the 425, you will blow the engine. i personally have seen engines go for 50k+ miles on 400hp safely.

^^^how much is that supercharger kit??

You're jokling about the injectors right? The stock injectors flow enough to get these motors over 300rwhp and adding higher flowing injectors at this power level will only cost monwy and not increase power. As for the cost, $300 for injector and the cost of a tune.

4k

Long tube headers, March Fluid Dampener, 3.90 or 4.10 gears, and cams are all good mods.

SLP02GT 07-10-2008 08:45 AM

hmm not bad for the sc, damn it why did I buy a bike when I could of put this money in my car.

spike_africa 07-10-2008 08:55 AM

Sounds like you need to figure out what else is already on the car. It has some mods already on it I see.

Such bad advice lol. The only thing that would be correct is the 4.10 gears, and sure, go for a shifter.

...because it's bad idea to put a bunch of money into a car since all they do is depreciate.

spike_africa 07-10-2008 09:52 AM

Not if you love your car and want to make it faster. Like me for example I don't care what its worth I don't plan on selling it ever. No need to.

Steeda97 07-10-2008 09:54 AM

Spike, when you have the opportunity to buy a better car, you won't sell yours?

I thought the same thing many years ago, but have since had 6 mustangs and about 20 other cars. I can't say I ever loved a car...

Welcome aboard... :t:

SLopez 07-10-2008 12:21 PM

Thank you so much for all your advice!!! I am kinda on a limited budget for the next couple of months trying to pay for insurance , but after i can start working on it.

cfl2121 07-10-2008 02:35 PM

Trust most opions on hear this guys are pretty good only one I would run from 60# injectors way to much.On a budget gears or a good tuner.Welcome aboard

King 07-10-2008 02:43 PM

Do you have any pics yet???

As for the 60lb injectors, I thought I wrote supercharger in the list too. 60lb injectors would make more sense with a super.

but he won;t need 60lb injectors at 400-450 rwhp, 39s can handle that.

No I wont, I already sold my first vehicle which was my 99 F150 that I made into a muscle truck and I regret doing that to this day. I wont make the same mistake with my mustang. Plus mines paid off and I have no reason to ever sell it. I will just add more to the stable as time goes on. I have my eye out for a 64-73 Galaxy or Falcon as my next project now that my 1954 MG TF has been fully restored and my dad drives it around now.

Hey slopez. Congrats on the new car purchase bud. As a few people have already said on here, GET SOME PICTURES UP! :) And also definately find out whats already DONE to the car, before u start worrying about what to change on it.

I see a few people in this thread giving some of the worst advice and making some of the most rediculous suggestions i've ever heard.

But a few people have made some good suggestions, if you dont have one already, get a short shifter. I STRONGLY STRONGLY recommend getting an "MGW" shifter. I had one on my 02 GT and now my 04 Cobra and its the best shifter out in the market in my opinion and many others as well.

I see you already have a steeda exhaust, otherwise changing the sound of the exhaust should be a 1st mod for any mustang owner. Having something unique and fun to listen to. A few people on here said get some Long tube headers...eeh i dont know about that. After having done 2 header installs myself, 1 shorty and 1 long tube i can tell you that they are time consuming and if you DONT do them yourself they can cost between $300-600 to have them installed. Plus the cost of the longtubes whichi is another $500+ generally. Exhaust wise i would just do a midpipe and catback and leave it at that for a while.

Hope you enjoy the new car =)
