Bad sounding exhaust

Hey guys, I have an off road x pipe (no cats), and tuned shorty headers. My mufflers are the ford racing style NOT the straight through design but the muffler style. My exhaust makes the noiseiest rattling sound not like somethings loose but just shitty LOUD noise from the mufflers. If I put the stock mufflers back on am I gonna lose a lot of power. I want the stock ones back because I can barely drive this with that noise, every cop within 5 blocks can hear me. It's not a good loud put it that way.

ive heard a mustang with off road x and fact mufflers and it sounds pretty good

I'd put a high flow catted midpipe on. Honestly the power loss from a non-catted system is ~2-3 horsepower, and you're really not going to miss it. It'll also quiet the system down some, which is what you're after. Not only that, you'll be street legal.

with high flow cats your not really going to loose power. i felt no gain whne i switched from my catted x to my o/r h.

as with the stock mufflers..you will be fine. the stock catback flows very well...which is why we dont see much gain after we put aftermarket cat backs... sound nice but its going to be quiet.

+1 the S197 stock exhaust system is very well engineered.

Well the car has been at villa park all weekend and I am getting it back on monday, I had my buddy redo the headers and weld the whole exhaust instead of clamps. He said when he took it there were exhaust leaks from pretty much every clamp on there, but he called this yesterday when it was done and he said no more buzzing and sounds way WAY better:D. maybe it was just installed shitty with a lot of leaks. Hopefully you'll hear me now lol:t:
