king cobra clutch helppp pleease

hey guys, i put a new king cobra clutch in , and got the steeda cable, quadrant, and firewall adjuster. When I first start driving the clutch is very smooth and feels right, after it runs for about 20 minutes, it gets harder to push and seems to grind and squeak (the cable not the trans) any suggestions???? thanks!

just a thought.

Did you bolt the little tab that was on the cable to the subframe to keep the cable away from the exhaust? If you have aftermarket headers, it might just be getting too hot and you would want to sleeve the cable with some heat shield of some sort. It will melt the plastic covering and goo up the inside.

I have also heard of the firewall flexing where the cable comes through but haven't seen an example of it yet.

ya kno , i didnt , because the damn thing wouldn't reach the subframe to bolt it on, the headers are stock as of right now, so maybe i'll try a heat wrap and see how it goes. thanks!

I would trash the Steeda cable and buy a OEM Ford replacement, bolt it to the frame and maybe even throw a little heat wrap on it as insurance.

The heat probably trashed the one you have. I had it happen to one of mine and it melted the vinyl covering, let moisture in and over time it rusted to the point you couldn't even push the pedal in. Did a stock replacement and made sure I kept it away from the headers and haven't looked back.

Yea, definitely ditch the aftermarket cable, even if it is a Steeda. People consistantly have problems with them. Great clutch btw, loved my King Cobra.
