Default Does this sound right?

Well, after weekend after weekend of EVERY exhaust shop in the state telling me they were too busy to even LOOK at my car I finally got it in... and it's pretty much worse case, my exhaust manifold is cracked on the driver's side. The guy who looked at it said he couldn't give me an estimate today because they were about to close, so I asked for a ballpark price and he guessed it would cost about $500-$600 to fix.

I may be wrong, but that sounds high to me, anyone ever had to fix this? How much did it set you back?

I don't know about v-6's, but the labor involved to replace headers in a V-8 is pretty involved. You need to drop the k-member, jack up the engine a little just to get the headers in and out. so 500-600 for a replacement header and install is not that bad. My suggestion would be to put some longtubes on there since the have to replace one anyway, just replace the other one!

Yeah it sounds about right if that includes a new manifold. You could but some LT headers on there but only if you are really going to try and get alot of performance out of your car, the stock headers are pretty good. I've seen some replacement manifolds on Ebay before for around $120, IIRC, and you could replace them yourself, not very hard on v6's if you have all the tools you need.

I know I am losing horsepower and fuel milage with this, what other bad things could happen if I don't get this fixed right away? I am getting it fixed tomorrow, just taking this as a learning experience.

It depends on how big the crack is but nothing really major can happen. I can't even think of something noticeable. I've heard v6 Mustangs drive by me in a parking lot or something that I can audibly tell they have a cracked manifold/exhaust leak.

Yeah, I didn't think anything to horrible could happen, I just can't stand the horse power I lose. Im probably down from 193 to 150 it feels like, if that. But so, if the price the guy gave me of $500-$600 includes a new manifold it is a good price for parts and labor?

just buy a set of shorties and slap em on . Takes just a few hours with the 6-er's. Cost is about half what a repair is going to cost you.
