MGW Short Throw Shifter - Installed!!!

So...I Ordered the Mgw Short Throw Shifter with the blue handle (sport) unaware that I currentley had a Steeda Tri-Ax Installed aready (by the previous owner) Firsrt I would like to thank dsg for the razor blade suggestion :icon_thum THe install was very easy up untill taking the Tri-Ax off...I was givin a suggestion to use a razor blade...which I did, and with a few wriggles it came off :D! The rest of the install was easy as pie (i used the shifter gasket you can buy here at MT)

Now I thought the MGW was gonna be pretty much the same as the Tri-ax..If I'm lucky a little shorter throw. WRONG. The MGW is AMAZING! First of all the thing is 5 times more quiet than the Steeda. The throw is SO much shorter and less effort. The shifter glides into every gear with much ease. And it finds 3rd for you, with almost no effort. This shifter was 110% worth it!! If I was aware of my Tri-Ax before, and new that the MGW was this good, I would have gotten It anyway its THAT much of a difference. If your debating getting a short throw get the MGW! Even If you have the Tri-Ax get the MGW if you have the cash, and sell the Tri-Ax to finance it. Once again it is worth it!! Hope this helps people make their desicion...I :love10: this shifter

Unfortunatley my camera battery charger is broken..im getting a new one tuesday hopefully. At MGW it looks alot bigger than it is, the handle is only about 3 inches long, and made that way for comfort im guessing. Its perfect, and thanks

Awesome, glad you took it off and found out how different it was. Im tempted to sell the tri ax now to get one...lol.

I'm glad everything worked out for you. I'm really considering getting rid of my tri-ax. The only reason I got the tri-ax over MGW is cause I found a local guy that bought it for his cobra and figured out it wouldn't fit so he gave it to me for $100.

I bet the noise difference is due to the MT gasket. I have the gasket as well and there isn't much noise.

Also if your dust boot is still intact, they have a sort fo rubber sealer (grommet) that reduces noise even more.

That's true, I didn't think about that. Do you have an aftermarked shift knob? There were several of us that got aftermarket shift knobs and for some reason the gear numbers wouldn't line up right with the tri-ax. I guess it was due to the threads on the shifter. Did you experience this with the MGW?

Badfish 06-20-2005 03:15 PM

I use the stock shift knob...no problems, and what do you mean?? the gear numbers were wrong??

jjtgiants 06-20-2005 03:23 PM

Sorry, I should have put more detail. After screwing the new shift knob on tight the gear numbers on the shift knob were facing towards the steering wheel rather than straight ahead towards the radio. It was an easy fix, just put a couple of washers under the shift know so when you tightened it everything lined up. I was just curious if the MGW shifter had the same issue, but I guess not, which is cool.

Oh yeah i thought that too. But i just turned it really hard and it aligned...Its on NICE and tight now

I have this knob and it came with a screw to set the direction of the knob http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang_race_knob.html
