Welding headers
 

I have the flowtech headers and I was wondering if there is any reason why I shouldn't or couldn't weld where the slip fit is? I know it's leaking a bit and it's kinda annoying. It's not the typical header ticking leak but more of an airy sound. Just thought I would get my dad to weld that area so it stops leaking. Anything bad about this?

should be fine as long as your dad's a decent welder. it's not hard.

hey...You gotta come over and check out your setup. I'm just about finished with it. Ported the shit out of and painted the upper plenum for you and everything, set it up with threaded vacuum ports, brass&bronze pre-filter, teflon lines, steel fittings. Looks tits. I'm fabbing up the bracket for it this week if I find the time.

Not sure if the Flowtechs use a slip-fit collector like the Hookers but if they do, just get a ball and socket collector kit from Flowmaster and have that welded in. Otherwise, if you're talking about the slip-fit where the 2-halves of the driver side header meets, make sure you have adequate room to pull your steering shaft through the primaries first. On my Hookers, I couldn't pull the steering shaft through so, if you weld that and you have no room when you change out the shaft, then the only way to pull the steering shaft out would be to cut the weld off. If there isn't room, just dent the tubes or have an exhaust place modify them so there is room.

yeah my dad is a good welder. He's been an iron worker for 30+ years and can do all the different kinds of welds.
