that is the question. so i dont know how the post 98 stangs are but i cant decide if i should be in over drive or not. and for that matter witch is faster. OD is always on unless i actually push the button and turn it off. its is on when i start the car. i just wondered witch i should be driving in and witch will be faster. from all i can tell the shifts are just harder when its not on.

The only time you turn off O/D is when racing etc... as you dont want to go into 4th gear at WOT. Otherwise leave it alone it doesnt make your car faster by turning off 4th gear.

Its been proven that racing with OD off wil slow you down and your times. Yes it does go into a higher rpm but after a certain RPM range you start to lose power. The CPU controls when/how/why the tranny should shift. Your CPU knows when its at WOT so it tells the tranny to shift at a different point and a different firmness. Best way to fix any auto tranny problems is buy a shift kit, or a tuner/chip.

i normally leave OD off when driving around the city 0-45mph traffic, if i hit the highway or any road constantly 50 and over i put it on.
Being in the lower gear makes the car a bit punchier because when stomping on it you dont have to wait for it to downshift. |
