2001 Mustang GT Transmission Identification
I've got a 2001 Mustang GT convertible that I want to upgrade with a short shifter and eventually a new clutch. I read on AmericanMuscle.com how to identify which transmission I have, but unfortunately the door jam tag on my car is faded and I can't read the transmission part of it. Is it possible to ID what type of transmission I have from the VIN number or is there any other markings on the car or the transmission that would tell me which one I have?
Thanks!!! |
what is the production date of your car? It should be on the door jam label.
Randy might be able to run your VIN to see. |
Production date is 12/00. That's about all I can see on that tag. Also, what's the biggest difference between the T-5/T-45 and the T-3650?

you have a T-45
I have the T-45 and my car was built in April of 2001. The earlier cars had the T-45. |
Thanks!

I think they switched to the TR3650 after 2/01 (or 1/01). There is little difference visually between the two (don't group the T5 w/ the T45 since both are different) but there are subtle differences (not sure what).

Its easy to tell if you have a 3650 as the bellhousing is cast into the tranny. So instead of having the bellhousing separate it will be part of the tranny case.
|
According to TREMEC's site though, they say the bellhousing is integral for both the T45 and TR3650 (and the TR3650's housing isn't cast into the tranny since on my 03, I can clearly see the excess silicone where the bellhousing and trans meet).
