Stainless Steel Bumper Inserts
 

how hard is it to remove the Stainless steel bumper inserts off the bumper? I want to take them off and then put them on a different bumper. Im assuming all you do is take a hair dryer to it take them off and then use some solvent to get the rest of the gunk off? or am i missing anything else? And they should be usable again just would have to get some more 3M tape right?

I have actually done this. lol.

Get some heavy strength fishing line and use it in a sawing motion to cut the foam off the rear of the inserts.

go pick up some 3m adhesive remover, put it in a small pan and put the letters in and let them soak. after a half hour to an hour you can get all the sticky backing off the letters.

then, you gotta get some heavy duty doublesided outdoor tape (it is foamlike and about 1/32inch thick) and you gotta get creative

to do mine i would cut 4-5 strips off, line them up to make a square, with the sticky side up (other sticky side should still have the backing on it) set the letter on it.

then get a raxor blade and cut around the letter to get all the exces off, then peel the backing off the back of the letter and put it on the new bumper.

expect to spend about 4-5 hours cleaning the letters and such, and careful, those edges are not designed for cutting but i managed to slice the shit out of my thumb doing this.

it just takes time and patience.

alright sounds fairly simple. I may have to try it later this week. that is if i end up getting that new bumper. Man im excited.

i guess i may just order a new set or just leave it off all together.

That's what I did when I got a new 'Stang. I mean, I'm sure it can be done, but imo not worth it. You'd have to clean up the existing bumper from 7 different areas/spots from the letters, you'd have to strip off the old tape from the letters and get new tape (and you'll never get as good of tape that the letters came with), and then you'd have to cut the tape to fit the letters perfectly. O, not to mention that when you are taking the letters off the bumper they are susceptible to getting bent.

the black ones are real cheap I think there like $12 and black always looks good on red

but i have the whole chrome thing going with the whole chrome rims and buillit gas cap. But we will have to wait and see.

As for not finding tape as good as it comes with, bullshit, lol, go to home depot and pick up some 3m heavy duty outdoor grade tape, it costs 6 bucks, it has red backing, i used a single piece of it and my chin spoiler 2 years ago and it is still stuck on there like an alabama tick.

As for cutting it to fit perfectly, look at my origional post, it quite clearly states how that part could be done in 10 min for all the letters combined.

cut 4-5 4 inch strips, place them side by side with sticky part up, put letter down on them, then use a razor to cutt off excess.

the ONLY part that is even REMOTELY a pain in the ass is getting all the goo off the back, that is why you soak them in a pan full of 3m adhesive remover, it turns the stuff into gel and 80% of it wipes right off, it is the remainder 20% that can suck, and that aint even that bad.

There is no way I would spend 5 hours doing anything when you can just buy new ones for $50.00. Not to mention, stuff like this never works out for me - lol
