slight difference in sound. x pipe is more high pitched and a little raspy, while an h pipe is more of a deep muscle car sound. x pipe is supposed to produce more horespower, while an h pipe more torque, but the difference is minimal. 1-2 rwhp and torque difference. Just get whichever one you want and like the sound of.

It all pretty much comes down to personal preference. Things are going to sound different depending on exhaust you have and so on. Listen to some clips or videos and make a decision based on what you hear. I have a few videos in my sig of of my cars exhaust. I have flows, o/r x-pipe, and LT headers.

I'm assuming that's to custom fab one up? If I were you, I'd buy an aftermarket one since it's a lot cheaper, even w/ install. For example, a $200 for a cat-less mid-pipe, $150 for cats, and $200 to install cats is $550. Mid-pipe w/ cats already on are around $400 so you can see the price reduction here.

you can get a Mac o/r h pipe for under $200, and a catted one for under $400. If you go used you can get them even cheaper. Installation of just the midpipe should be around $75 - $100.

I dont know how mechanically inclined you are, buts its not a hard install and its not hard to do. I would recommend to most people to give it a shot to install it. Its pretty straight forward and you will save that cash.

What does all of this mean in my case? I have straight pipes from the headers to the tips. Is it just a change of sound then?

You dont need a cross over pipe on v6s as there even firing so this doesnt apply to the 3.8 cars.

I'm surprised anyone can even get a quote for off-road pipes. If you get caught, the shop that did the work can also be held liable and fined. No one around here will install a catless mid-pipe.
