H.T. vs Convert.
on a 99-04 model does it really make that much of a difference?.....top down i know it does but top up against a hard top is it really that drastic?
...oops wrong thread.
Verts historically are heavier as they require additional support structures (in unibody construction) to keep from folding in on themselves. Which means they need more umph to get them moving. it typically takes much more in the modification dept to get a Vert to go 12s than it does for a coupe. They are also more twisty so both launching at the track and handling twisties can be more challenging.... they also almost always eventually leak water into the interior. I'm sure that all holds true for the 99-04.. it was drastic for the fox's when you compared a GT vert to a nice plain jane notch..
The question you have to ask yourself is do you want 12s at the track, do you want to turn some big Gs on the roadcourse or... do you want a cool vert that makes you feel good driving it on a nice day.... But to answer your question, for day to day driving in a basically stock car, vert wins |
Convertibles are heavier. The motor for the top is pretty heavy. I believe the convertibles have sub frame connectors.
Alot of tracks won't let you race verts that are too fast without having a roll cage. Atco is no verts under 13.5 seconds. |
almost 20 years old...want a car that wont come down to the wire wen goin heads up against a charger or somethin like that. obviously im gunna mod it, but bold ons come first. turbo next. im not certain if that would boost me up past 13.5 seconds, but i still dont want to be too drastically effected if im in a vert. i know realistically that the ht would be faster, just is it that much of a difference? how bout if i took the roof motor out and made it a manual convertable(if its possible)?
Chargers suck.
well no shit. big freekin engine though...so i dun wanna b in a car tha shoulda won but didnt
Don't worry, the Chargers do the 1/4 slower than the 99-04 cars.
k sweet :D best friends dad has a daytona. always makes fun of me cuz right now im in a 01 v6.....im definitly a summer person so thas y i was lookin at a vert. but if i mod it up a bit would i be able to keep up with him on the track or should i bug my dad for his camero :P 8 seconds flat :D
Well, Motor Trend did a Bullitt special 2 years ago and the Mustang destroyed the Charger R/T. The Daytona shouldn't be anything different but the SRT8 w/ the 6.1 needs to be watched.
thas the one he has. with the big huge ass engine. hemi on steroids. thing is could i take it with bolt ons alone on a convert?
bolt ons barely do anything on a six. If you want a real noticeable improvement you need to go with a power adder. Not to mention it has x2 as much hp stock
im gettin a gt for summer. thats y i wanted to know ht or convert
sorry forgot to add that |
ah alright makes sense now haha because I was like no way in hell :D Which year are you looking into? 99-04? I would stick the the hardtops IMO
during the summer i literally live on a beach. so the convert is a great look. part of it is i can walk to the tack. so flying there in a mustang would take me 2 minutes.
so i was jus curious, talkin bout this i brought up another question....is it possible to take the motor out of the normal vert and just go top down manually? obviously for weight purposes |
i really don't know about the whole manual vert top.
but i drove a coupe, it was nice fun stiff.. went to a vert after my wreck and don't want to go back... ride is not as stiff but the top makes it so much more fun... my plan was to get SFC, and a four point cage, and with the cage wrap it in a vinyl like stuff to give it a cleaner look... |
I have a vert and I love it, I really dont think its a big difference in speed vs a hard top. My buddy as a 97 anniversary Trans Am and I kept up when my car was stock. Now that I have my 4.10's I smoke him. He says his car has something like 310 hp. So you wont need to worry about bein slow in a vert. Also, they are a blast in the summer.
thanks a lot for the input guys, i think ill probably be goin vert after all :D
