Default Vert mustang questions..

Does anyone know exactly what is it that makes the verts alot more heavier than coupes/hard tops?

all that convertable **** the power motors,tops, extra metal bracing etc... makes it heavy.

The newer (96-up) convertibles have LOTS of additional bracing in the unibody to compensate for the lack of a tin roof. This weighs nearly 200# more than the comparable coupe body. Then you add the weight of the mechanisms that raise and lower the covertible top; the 2 rear power windows that the convertibles have, etc., and there you have it - dead weight.

The 05 covertibles are only 130# or so heavier than the 05 coupes, so the difference is somewhat less.

In spite of all this extra metal, the convertibles are STILL a lot more flexible than the coupes.
