firewall adjuster, quadrant and cable

i bought a new steeda quadrant and firewall adjuster. The kit came with the adjustable cable, but i've read plenty of times to use the stock one. So I did. Now my problem is theres not enough cable for my clutch. its like its too short leaving the clutch partially engaged. I have the firewall adjuster screwed all the way in and the cable is on the hook closest to the firewall. Why don't I seem to have enough cable? I'm gonna try the adjustable cable if I can't figure this out with the stock one anyone have any ideas?

Not really sure with the Cobra, I know alot of people have used the stocker and never had any issue..

I personally used the Steeda cable with my sixxer and never had any issue with stretching or anything like that..

::Eagerly awaits all of the "you must use the ford cable" comments!::

LOL!

Look at Steeda's website at their directions, I did this over the summer and I recall a footnote or special directions for installing a non-adj cable with the triple hook and FWadj.. You had to cut something off of the cable (at the firewall)..like one of spacer/bushing things to give it a little more slack.

found it

1994-2004 MUSTANG USING STOCK CABLE:
Pry the metal flange which bolts to the firewall off of the cable. Unhook the
plastic coupler and pull it off the cable sheath. Cut through the coupler to
remove it from the cable. Pull the rubber bushing (which was under the
coupler) off of the cable. Place the bronze adapter bushing into the Cable
Adjuster. Insert the clutch cable into the Cable Adjuster.

Try putting it on the hook furthest away from the firewall.

putting it on the other hook gave me less cable to work with :( and those were the same directions that came with the kit. you wouldn't think that a cobra would be different cause its still the same transmission. the 3650. its got me stumped but until i can figure it out the adjustable one went on :( it fit just fine... thanks for the replies guys.. really appreciate it :)

did you remove the coupler and rubber bushing and use the bronze adapter bushing?

I want to know more about your nova. I've got a 72'

nightzx 01-06-2008 10:09 PM

uh its nothing special. Bought it for 2500 lol. It sat for 2 years in some guys garage and it didn't run when i trailered it home. Sat in my driveway for 2 weeks trying to get the stupid thing to run. Finally figured out a fuse was out to the distrubutor or something. Replaced it and it fired right up.

anyways...the paint on it was all faded. So i took some black primer to it so it was atleast all one color again. Plus i think that novas look great in black primer for some reason lol. Guy that I bought it from said it ran a 12 flat in the 1/4. No idea if theres any truth to that or not because it doesn't run very well yet. It needs to be timed incredibly bad. I work so much and favor my cobra so much more that the nova pretty much gets neglected so there hasn't been much work done to revive it.

I wish mine was that nice lol. I need to sell it AND my cobra though :( . I'm joining the navy and don't wanna have a car payment and an extra junker car laying around my parents house while im gone. I'll get one again though. Hopefully a '68 so I can have the first year of that body style. Then commence my plans to put a big block in it :)
