Taking off tires
 

I have a 2002 gt and i was wondering how hard it would be to take off the wheels and clean them up a bit. Im only 16 and i was just wondering how i could do this and with what materials i will need. Its winter here in Pennsylvania and its sitting for the winter so i thought i could clean it up a bit!

jack the back side up, put jackstands to support it then take your rear wheels off and clean them up.

i'd take some warm soapy water first wash and scrub them with a nice brush (not wire), then take some Blue Magic Metal Polish (get it at Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts), and apply it let it sit for about 15 minutes, then wipe it off, and take a lint free or microfiber towel and hand buff them.

then put them back on the car, lower the back, and go do the front

1/2 inch drive-21MM six-point socket, long style and a 1/2 inch longer handled ratchet. if you can't find a long 21mm socket, just get a 6inch 1/2 inch drive extension.

I'd recommend a torque wrench to assure you tighten the lugs to 100ft/lbs, but most wont want to spend that much or dont think its necessary to torque the lug nuts.

to lift the car you need a jack and a pair of jackstands. if you have never lifted any car up before, I suggest you have someone there with you that has.

To clean the wheels/tires from grime use some Eagle 1 all wheel&tire, it's pretty cheap and works great, about 6$ for 32oz at autozone.

You got balls asking this question, that is for sure - lol BUT, I have to be honest. I did not know didly about cars when I was 16, so I feel for you at the same time.

Taking off a wheel is about as easy as it gets, but, it can be VERY dangerous and you can also really mess things up.

If I were you, I think you just need to find someone who can help you and then you will have one of those "I get it" moments and it will all make sense.

I would hate to see you muck up the bottom of the car because you jacked it in the wrong place, or drop it on a wheel hub, or brake a stud. Also, even trained technicians have been known to not install a wheel correctly to have it fall off when driving the car.

Just make sure whatever "polish" you use on the wheel is safe for clear coated wheels.

Dude, Its not even worth the time nor the effort to take off your tires just to clean them. Just get some good polish like 03gtmustang said and ur good to go. Also you might want to check out Mothers powerball http://www.mothers.com/products/prod...ower_prod.html. You can get it at any autopart store, i think the cost is around $20 bucks. All you would need is cordless drill. I would honestly do that rather than remove each tire. So that's polish, powerball, and lint free microfiber towel and your set. Hope this helps.

ya but hes in penn, you cant leave all that dirt and salt on the inside of your rims for that long or they will get pitted all over the places

yeah i know what you mean, lived in kansas for four years. . but he did say the car will be sitting for awhile. Thats y I dont see a need to take all the wheels off. just a real good rinse and then polish. Should be just fine. But thats just my opinion.
