Default Tie Rod Dust Boots

Just finished installing my FRPP Handling Pack (wow, Eibach springs blow compared to this) and in the process, the dust boots for the tie-rod ball joints ripped thanks to the pickle forks. However, the shop I took it to for an alignment says I can't just replace the boots, I have to replace the whole tie-rod. Is this true because I'm not too sure if it is. If not, I'm assuming changing the boot involves disconnecting the tie-rod and replacing the boot right?
