wat short shifter to get?

i seem to miss third gear quite often when racing. especially against camaros! must be an inexperience thing. looking to buy a shifter, but which one do i get? its a 97 cobra with a t45 i believe.

My personal preference is the Steeda Tri-ax. But most people are going to tell you to get MGW.

Hurst FTW! Really most shifters on the market are extremely similar so buy one that puts the knob where you want it.

r3dn3ck 11-16-2007 08:45 AM

won't matter... steeda, upr, blah blah. The only one a little different is the MGW. Get a tri-ax if you can't decide. At least there's not a worst thing to be had in this category.

Make sure you get one that's spring centered on the 3-4 line. Cleans up that whole 3rd shift thing.

I used the Tri-Ax in 2 of my stangs and really liked it. People swear by the MGW so maybe try it. If cost is an issue you might be able to find a used
Tri-Ax on one of the stang sites.

MGW. its just the best out there...best made...best materials...so on and so on. It costs a little more than the others...but...you get what u pay for and its worth it because its one of the few things in your car you touch and use EVERY time you drive...its worth it to have the best.

wHat?

WaterDR 11-16-2007 08:15 PM

They are all way better then stock. You can't go wrong.

Turd Ferguson 11-16-2007 08:30 PM

pro5.0 or MGW.

MGW is nicer. Its what I call the fancy shifter. Where pro5.0 is the shifter thats got a mission. Shifts hard and perfect, but aint all that fancy...

Can you install a new shifter yourself?

r3dn3ck 11-19-2007 07:47 AM

yes... it's easier than falling down.

yes, it's pretty easy. I've done it a few times and the hardest part can be breaking the seal of the stock shifter in order to pull it off. The seal on my GT wasn't to tough, but the seal on my Mach was a bitch to break. Give it a shot, it's pretty easy.

HighSchoolGT 11-19-2007 03:14 PM

alright cool I think I might ask santa for a new short throw shifter for christmas :)
