fuel question

i was just wondering.. i was talking to this one guy taht said he tuned his car to run rich to avoid denotation, but isn't running rich bad on the engine?? i know that i won't be as bad as running lean, but isn't it still bad??

rich can be just as bad for the motor as lean. It's harder to cause some of the more serious damage types running rich but with power adders it can land you deep in the shop with big bills headed your way. It also is a brilliant way of killing the o2 sensors and catalytic converters ahead of schedule, fouling plugs, coking the exhaust valve, increasing header heat...

A properly running car isn't running too lean or too rich. It's running efficiently.

i was talking to a guy that was aobut to buy a turbo mustang, and the owner of the mustang said it was running 9.5# of boost. and running rich to prevent denotation, i told my friend i would be weiry about the running rich part, if the tunner was a good one he would be able to get the 9.5 with out ahving to run rich
