Help for new Ford guy!

Hi fellas, i am new here and new to Ford. I have a project 5.0 1987 Mustang and need to ask some simple questions. Frist, i am a Chevy guy, and a Harley mech, (Thats is all i know) So this will be great fun to learn. I have a performace (dyno) book and a basic Mustang project book for the Fox body mustangs. But i need a few common answers. So here gos.
Where are engine i.d. numbers on Ford 5.0? How do i know what engine is in this 1987 GT? How would i know if this is a roller motor or not? Can i tell from the outside or engine number? Does Ford use suffix numbers or codes like Chev?
I want to thank you in advance. I`ll try not to be too much of a bother. Have a fun day.

Well, if the enigne is original, it should be a roller engine. Also, yes, the block casting numbers will give you all the info you need to know (though I don't know them though someone will chime in who does). Also, I think 87 still used speed density EFI so a Mass Air conversion may be worth while.

Thanks a bunch. So where do i locate engine number on the block? Please advise. I will check speed density out.

Your questions really more fall in the bucket of restoration issues. Not too many Fox Body guys on this site or sites like these with this type of experience, but you never know.

There are some good resources, though. I would start with a business called CJ Pony in Harrisburg, PA. They are the supreme beings when it comes to Mustang restoration.

They have a web site....www.cjponysports.com. They have a forum. It is not heavily used, but monitorted closely by the staff and you will get ANY question you can imagime about this car answered. You can also call them. They are very helpful.

You may want to check a site called www.modularmisfits.com and ask on their forums.

Randy Stinchcomb is a member here at at Misfits and he is a Ford parts service manager who is big into modded mustangs and an awesome guy. Try posting in the Ford Parts section to get him. He generally only reads posts during the week though.
