Just got my '04 GT in oxford white a week ago. Have been driving a '98 Pontiac Grand Am with a 4-cyl and automatic for the last 8 years but gave it to my son to go to school in. All previous cars were manual transmissions (I was an Alfa Romeo maniac for a long time).
Anyway had to get another car and I always wanted a 5-speed V8 Mustang and now I have one.
I'm having a minor driveabilty problem that at first I thought was that I have'nt driven a stick in 8 years.
My shifting is a little bit "shaky" both up and down.
I suddenly realized that the reason might be that the pedal positions are so awkward! The gas pedal is almost 5" below the height of the brake pedal which is about 2" below the height of the clutch pedal! Weird!
I called a local Ford dealer and asked if the gas pedal could be adjusted
higher and they said no.
Can anything be done to bring the gas pedal up closer to the other pedals
as this would probably cure my "driving problem".

yeah there is several ways you can fix it, one get a few zip ties pull the gas peddle forward, and zip tie the slack, two you can get rubber spacers pull the gas peddle forward and fill in the slack, but pretty much how you do it is find a way to pull the extra slack out of the line. and there peddle moved forward!!

Maybe some peddle covers? That could add about .5" to the surface of the peddle it's self?

I don't recommend ANY of the above mods...the reason is the gas pedal is set lower than the others is so in a "panic" stop, you ONLY hit the brake pedal and NOT the gas...adjust your driving style and learn how to drive it the way Ford meent it tobe built

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
Having spoken to a few people about the pedal "problem" I am inclined to
take Randy's advice and leave it alone and just get used to it.
Now that I have driven the GT a few more days since my post (it is my every day car) I am shifting more smoothly by being a little more aggressive with the gas pedal.

terry.. what are you puking at? Dude came here to get advice, he was given great advice by randy and said he's gunna take the advice and use it. I'd have to say that Tom is about one of the best n00bs we've seen in a long time. He's got his head screwed on straight and he knows better....

Ripping on him is uncalled for and not totally cool.

Tom, FWIW I prefer the euro style pedals at the same height. That's best left for race cars in this litigious bloody country.

OldGT please dont pay attn. to that guy.... most of us here are pretty damn cool and dont come down on peeps too often. I find it funny how some guys or kids I might say, come to the web to grow a set off testicals they otherwise wouldnt have in the real world. Somehow they think they can come and flame and pop off at the mouth on others to make theirself look bigger. Myself, like others come here to learn about mustangs and an old woman taught me a good lesson when I was young that I can apply here. "One can learn a lot more when their mouth is closed"

I want to thank everyone who came to my defence with regard to the reply by terry5357.
To tell you the truth I really don't know what he was talking about or even inferring and therefore don't take offence!
But to terry I would say that the vast majority of young people I know do
not know how to drive a manual transmission and never will. And thats fine!
I'm sure there are many Mustang drivers who are members of this site who drive Mustangs with auto trannies and I regard them to be just as much a member of our fraternity as those who power shift all day!
Again I appreciate all the good advice and hope to come back for more.
Who knows I hope that I will be able to provide some in the future!
