Squeaky belt/pulleys...
 

I'm not sure if it's my belt or the pullies that are squeaking bad lately. I just replaced my belt about a year ago with a goodyear gatorback belt which is great so I doubt that's the problem! Is there something I can spray on the pulley assembly to see if they are the cause of the squeak. Maybe my car is too damn old now...I have about 120k miles on the old girl and shes been nothing short of amazing!!:D

I just replaced my belt tensioner pulley assembly and it fixed my squeak/chirp issue. I had already replaced the idler pulley about 6 months ago and it never fixed it. all good now...and an easy install.

The squeal could be from any of the pullies or just the belt itself.

Do this. Get some belt conditioner spray and spray the belt. If the sqeal goes away, then it is the belt.

You can also spray some WD-40 right near the pulley bearings. Try hitting the alternator one for example. If it gets quiet, then it is the pulley. However, a bad pulley will get noisy again right away.

A little WD-40 can also make a belt squeal go away too.

man, I'd just go to an auto parts store or tool store like Northern Industrial, or w/e you have where you live...and buy an automotive stethoscope. I got mine for about 10 bucks...you will know exactly where your noise is coming from...lol...and its fun to hear other parts of your engine running.

If it is the belt, the sound will most likely travel to different spots making the stethoscope worthless, but if it is a pulley the stethoscope will def. help. I just had this problem. I replaced my idler pulley, then I replaced my tensioner w/pulley just to find out it is my two month old belt. I put a new belt on and started squealing again. Its weird b/c my car has never squealed in 3 yrs until now. I just lubed the belt and it fixed the problem. Don't lube the belt too much though or it can jump off the pulley. I know, it has happened before :)

If for some reason it ends up being your tensioner, I have my old one that I would sell you cheap since the tensioner wasn't my problem but I left the new one on anyway.

I'm gonna try spraying some wd-40 on the pulleys to see if that fixes it. The gatorback belt came pre-lubed. I don't think I should spray it again..

WD-40 eats rubber. wouldn't advise putting that on the belt.

I've got a real cunt of a squeak currently. Like a pack of crickets in the passenger front side when I start my car cold in the mornings, as soon as it warms up, or without the belt the noise is gone. Tried a new tensioner and belt, and it was still there. Spun the alt pulley with the belt off and it was a squeaker, figured I had my problem pegged, replaced it...still squeaked. Thought I might as well replace the water pump, sounded like it could be the culprit...still there. All my pulleys look aligned right and straight, but I think that must be my problem....

Guys that build fast-ass cars with high hp engines do it all the time.

when I had to go to an oil and solvent training seminar for working at Murrays Auto we got all kinds of technical info about everything we sold. One thing I do remember well is that WD-40 eats rubber and should never be applied to any rubber surfaces. This is also the same thing my grand father told me long ago.

Google it, I cant find one site that says it rubber safe.
