Exhaust problem
 

I recently bought a Cobra rear bumper from Cervinis and installed it then had a whole new exhaust system installed. So now the exhaust tips are pulled right up against the bumper. The people who installed the exhaust said there was no way to move the exhaust due to the hangers. To guarantee the pipes wont melt the bumper does anyone know of a material I can put in between the bumper and the exhaust tips that wont melt or catch fire or anything else possibly harmful to my car. A last resort is to have the bumper cut but I prefer not to. Please help.

Cut off the tip and reweld it so that it fits correctly. They may have to just cut off the hanger and weld it again.

When you say cut off the tip what exactly are you talking about?
When you say cut off the hanger and have it rewelded do you mean cut off the hanger pull the exhaust away from the bumper and weld the hanger to the exhaust eventhough the hanger came prewelded to the exhaust.

Yeap and shouldn't cost much.

it's like 5 minutes of work and them geniuses at the exhaust shop should'a done it to begin with. I've installed many many exhaust kits and they never just fit perfectly. You have to push and pull and fiddle and sometimes cut em' up and weld em to get them to fit just so. Aftermarket body panels or no, they should have done it right the first time. It's not hard.

Thanks for your help. Now I have one more question. Do you know if I leave my exhaust as is till summer of 08 if my urethane and fiberglass bumper will get damaged? The car will be started so the battery does not die but it will not be drove.

Starting your car, idling it, and then turning it off is not a good idea if you want it to last. You need to drive it to evaporate any water in the engine so that it doesn't turn into acid.

I won't make any bets on damage. I can't see it from here. In any case, bassman is handing out some sage advice. Have whomever is starting it to take it down to mcdonalds or something...drive it till it's nice and warm. Sitting does bad things to cars.

Undone the tip off the hanger bracket and get some coat wire hanger to tie to the rubber hanger and tailpipe. You really need to take the advice and get car warmed up correctly without the fear of the bumper melting.

Thanks for the advice about cars sitting. I know sitting sucks I need to replace the throttle cable because the person I bought the car from let it sit now that went bad. (if you know how to replace that I posted a thread called throttle cable) Also the advice about cutting off the hanger and pullling it away from the bumper and rewelding the hanger to the exhaust will not put any strain on the exhaust correct? whether it be welding around the same spot twice or anything.
