bad timing chain tensioner cause ticking noise?
 

was told i had a possible bad timing chain tensioner. heres the deal, when car is started up cold very noticeable ticking until warms up and idles at 1k or 900. also when driving above 1800 rpm ticking comes back, seems like faster with higher rpms. any1 know what the hours is on tthat job?

the chain tensioner doesnt make any noises and doesnt even touch the timing chain. Its just there to hold up the chain guides that put tension on the chains. Sounds like some other issue your having....

Here's a pic of a failed tensioner arm. It did cause alot of problems with my engine, but there wasn't a ticking noise. The right bank tensioner arm is kinda notorious for failing.

it's entirely probable that you have a sticky lash adjuster. Try running a quart of ATF in your oil for a few minutes before your next oil change. That may loosen up the crud. That ticking can come from a lot of places.

a quart of ATF? is that safe?

don't run it for days or nothin... just a few minutes at idle right before the change. I'm sure there's a few others on the board old enough to have used the procedure before. I've done it hundreds of times.

Don't overfill your oil... drain a quart first if your oil isn't low.

my car lost everything. has no balls, not even acelleration. is thats how u spell it. it wont go. just gets really loud racing in rpms but drives slower than shit. suddenly happened, any ideas. reverse is the only gear the didtn **** up. trans???? :flameON: happened after doing a burnout. i heard something about a rev limiter, once u hit it ur car runs shitty til code is cleared? maybe i was high when i heard it though. no check engine light either, this whole time....

tranny = fragged. get another.
