Tail light tint question

Hey Im looking at the tint for my tail lights at autobadges. They have 50% and Blackouts. They show a pic of the blackouts at night and they seem to be bright. They say it wont damage your lights.
I was wondering if anyone had bought from them, if they had problems or if it was a no prob

thanks

I have the blackout vinyl and havn't had any problems. The fit was perfect but make sure you follow the directions and use a couply sprays of soapy water then squeegy it out. Don't try to just stick them on. During the day the tails are harder to see if it is sunny but you still have the 3rd brake light so it's not that bad.

I can't imagine that it would damage your tail lights. I had the 3rd brake light blackout too but I removed because I didn't like it. It left slight residue which would rub off during the next wash. It was only on for about 2 weeks. I would image the residue would get stickier if left on longer but nothing a bit of goo gone wouldn't fix.

no problems yet I have the 50% rear package and so far so good great product and easy to install!!

now i just have to decide 50% or black out

Does anyone use the tailout covers?? I would think they would be better cause you could remove them when cops hassle you and then put them right back on after he leaves. With tint you would have to take it off and buy new ones if you want to put them back on

I had both. The covers are a pain and stick out a little bit. I lost one actually going down the highway :shock2:

Now I have the tinted ones. Its real easy to take them off and put them back on. You can use the same tint over and over again.

I had them and I had to take them off for inspection And wow what a pain in the ass. There wasn't any sticky stuff when i put them on last year but when i removed them there was a tone of sticky residue all over the tail lenses, And these where the 50% tint from autobadges. so be prepared when you want to remove them after some time.

Exactly what I was going to say. The covers are going to stick out a bit and IMO don't look good. With the tints you should be able to pull them off and reuse them. I had the 3rd brake light tint and I removed that after about 2 weeks and it was still very sticky.

Like 02stang said I would imagine after a while of being in hot/cold weather they would become less sticky.

Cheddarbob 07-24-2007 09:24 PM

well w/ the 50% how well can you see the light in day/night?

Steeda97 07-24-2007 11:18 PM

I was thinking about the tail light tint available at stangmods.com, 50% of course. Do you think it would match well with my smoked clear corners?

yellowstang99 07-25-2007 05:29 AM

I have had a set of the 50% and now have the blackout. I noticed on the 50% that they aren't that shiny, more of a matte finish compared to the blackouts. I had this super shiny car with matte black taillights. Switched over to the blackouts and they are super shiny. Love them, and haven't had any problems with them.

v6'stang 07-25-2007 06:31 PM

i've never used the taillight tints, but i use to have the blackout tail/head light covers on, they didn't stick out enough to draw a mass amt. of attention to them, and yea they're gonna stick out, ur putting a piece of plastic over another piece of plastic, lol. only time i lost one was in the carwash (my own fault i know). other then that they were kikass 'till the po po hastled me a few times about them, but they let me off everytime. it sounds to me the tint stuff f's up the light more then the lense cover does, i'd go w/the lense cover again.

redfire04 07-25-2007 07:46 PM

The only thing the tint is going to do to the light is leave behind a sticky residue that could be hard to get off depending on how long they were on. Nothing some goo gone won't remove. It's kind of like putting a sticker on a window. If it is there a long time it will be harder to get off without leaving residue behind except unlike a window it is harder to get the residue off because you can't use a razor blade like you can on windows.

I went with 50% on both my rides and think they look great.

So far, nobody has slammed into the back of either car, so I'm guessing they can see when I hit the brakes.

Cheddarbob 07-26-2007 02:28 PM

ok my question may not hae been phrased right. I ment how much light come through the tint when braking so people see that Im stoping?

I do like the 50%

v6'stang 07-26-2007 03:34 PM

that does look good, about how it looked w/my covers on

redfire04 07-26-2007 04:35 PM

This would be a guess but with blackouts I would say approximately 50% of the light still shines through and with 50% tint I would guess 70% of the light shines through. The worst is when it is really sunny out but you can still see them plus like I said before you still have the 3rd brake light.
