another 5 bolt 289 question

Does anybody know how well the crank from a '64 5 bolt 289 will work with a later model 302 block? I assume I will have to get the block line-bored? Also, will the timing covers interchange? I'm trying to use all the fresh parts from my 5 bolt 289 and build a 6 bolt 289 based on the easier to find 302 block, so, if anybody knows what will and what wont interchange, I'd love to know.

A 302 is nothing more than a stroker crank in a 289. So yes, everything should interchange perfectly. Just watch out since some of the latr 302 blocks might be missing item related to carb and mechanical fuel pumps, etc.

the 260 was totally different though wasn't it? .. IIRC that's the one with little interchange utility. The 289 and 302

still... for the price of a crank I'd just get a used one with your used 302 block or a forged eagle unit. Unless there's something special keeping you to 289cid a 302 is just as useful and even then you can get a new 289 crank polished and ready to use for just a little more than machining and polishing your existing one. Just a thought.

I know you're trying to save but you'll have more issue trying to match things than just going full bore with a modern complete 302 bottom end... or even a modern 289 bottom end. Parts for 5 litres are sick cheap.

The 260 I think was the 289 w/ a smaller bore (not sure but I believe heads from the other Windsors bolt up)?
