Carbon fiber and Hood Pins

Hey folks.

Welp, i ordered the Carbon Fiber Mach 1 Hood.
Sometime next week ill order the Karkraft shaker setup.

Now, im assuming i need hood pins. Any reccommendations on some good hood pins that look good with carbon fiber?

also, will this stuff crack if i start drilling holes in it???????

you could prolly powder coat some. i dont know of any websites but i bought FRPP hood pins for my car. they are bling bling. hood pins are just for extra protection. the part that may fail on a after market hood is the hood latch. the pins just eliminate that possibility. i ran my car up to 140 with the cobra r hood and it was bouncin around pretty bad.

Curious as to where you got the cf hood and how much?

Id pick up Fords pins or Steeda's. My choice would be Ford's first. They also come corded so you dont have to worry about some jackass pulling them out on you and walking away with them.

Youll have to have the hood on and line up the pins so you know where to drill. You have to double-check, tripple-check and quadrupple-check, quintupple-check, and hextupple-check to make sure its lined up correctly. Once you drill.... well, youve drilled and it could be too late if its a mistake.

Start out with a smaller bit to drill with and keep lining up and step up. Carbon is a super strong woven fiber but it can still spidercrack and you dont want to jump in with a huge bit because you can risk that.

How well would it work to identify the area i want them under the hood, then drill the hood, then line up the pins with the holes in the hood before bolting the pin assembly down beneath the hood?

i hope i dont **** this up.

lol..

Well you install the hood and make sure it's all lined up and will close all the way.

Then you install the pin's to the location you need them.Use something like fingernail polish or paint and put it on the top of the pin's and don't let it dry.Lower your hood till it's touching the top of the pin's and it will mark where you need to drill.

Personally I'd take it to a body shop and have them install the pin's.A custom shop would be able to do it easy. When I had mine done the hood was way to thick to use the pin's where they are supposed to be and they had to custom fab them.

I like the FRRP pin's but they could have been a little longer. They also make a hood pin that lock's,no pin's just a key and the hardware.

Use something thatll mark, like some white-out. Remember when it marks, youll have to drill a tad bit towards the windshield so itll close with the pins up

Lances03SVT 06-30-2007 03:56 PM

Where did you get the hood from?

manufacturer is Reflexxion

when i put my pins in im just gonna put them where those rubber things are. i'll put some bushings around the pins so it has a little cushion to it.

i only read around that people with cobra R hoods the frpp pins are too short. i dont think he will have that problem. if you than all you have to do is weld the pins in place instead of using the supplied nuts to secure the pins

CDC and Roush dont.

:)

Im going with KarKraft which uses 95% ford parts, the 5% is an adapter bracket for our 2valves which fits it perfectly with Mach1 hoods.

the Karkraft setup ONLY works with the mach1 hood, and wont work with the cutout CDC setup.
