Short Throw Shifters?
Do short throw shifters really improve your shifts that much? And is bascially like using a normal shifter or is there a little practice you have to take?
|
yes, they make a big difference. The short throw shifters obviously make make each shift shorter, but they also pretty much prevent you from missing 3rd gear. It will take a little getting used to, but it's pretty much the same as your normal shifter....just shorter and more precise.
It's the first mod I've done to my last two stangs. If money is a concern just keep searching different mustang sites and you'll probably be able to pick up a used one for around $100. your next question probably will be which shifter to go with. I've only used Steeda and have been very pleased, however MGW is probably the best shifter out right now. |
agreed, mgw was my choice, it adds to the enjoyment of driving.
|
yup...MGW is the bomb.
best I've ever used. |
i have a pro5.0 shifter for sale...
|
Where do I get a MGW shifter?
|
dude... got google. Cmon a little effort.... Google'd mgw mustang shifter and first thing that pops up is:
http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang_shifter.shtml |
Yeah when i get paid friday i will probably be purchasing a mgw shifter thank you for the help guys.
|
Hurst FTW. To be honest though, all the shifters have the same features and what it really boils down to is personaly preferance. Do a little research and see which one suits you best.

I like my Pro 5.0....
|
like my steeda and got it used from americanmuscle.com
|
I had a steeda tri-ax and didnt like it. I prefered stock over steedas. Ive driven cars with the pro50 and liked it better than steeda's.
Im still rockin the stock shifter. Id like to pick up a MGW but ive got other things that need to be taken care of first. |
I've got the stock shifter with a steeda handle and it sucks :( .

all the shifters are NOT the same. Hurst is a good one though. MGW is the best though. It goes farther than personal preference...the MGW is better made and has more adjustibility than the others.

All of the good ones have the same features. Adjustable bias spring, shift stop, similar reduction in throw, etc. In addition, all can have their sticks modified whether by buying different size sticks (like I did w/ my Hurst) or by using a welder, drill, and/or make shift brake. Granted yes, the MGW may allow adjustability of handle position w/o custom fabrication or the price of different sticks, but the other features are all the same.

Yo so do I. What kind of tranny fluid you going wit? I was thinking that royal purple syntech stuff, or just stock wutever. Think any difference? :breakdancesmilie:
|
amsoil or royal purple. synthetic in the tranny just makes sense... you don't have a filter in there and it rarely gets looked at. Use the good stuff.
|
Redline D4 ATF. As for the comment on who cares about the looks, it's under a boot...All I have to say is push the boot down and you'll see it in all it's glory. I have no clue why Ford hates to show off their shifters like they use to. Another reason why I went w/ Hurst is the timeless chrome stick and white ball shifting the gears.
