stock tranmission in 99-04 gt

whats the stock transmission in a 2000 gt? Is it the C4 AODE? i have the automatic with the electric overdrive...but is it the C4? How much horsepower can the stock transmission handle?

depends on how well you took care of it. me i sort of neglected mine for a long time. about 4 months after i installed a vortech 1-2 shift got lazy same with the 2-3 shift at WOT. the car would constantly bounce the limiter. so because i didnt have enough cooling and i didnt do the J-mod to the valve body my tranny failed prematurely. if i had taken care of it it would of lasted a long while.

what you could do to make your tranny last longer with more power.
do the J-Mod or buy a valve body from performance automatic or lentech
buy a external tranny cooler, im running a B&M 24k tranny cooler.
you especially need these things if you are going to have a higher stalled converter put in.

HEAT KILLS AUTOS.....change tranny fluid often good idea to install a trans temp gauge.

No it is not the C4.

The C4 has not been used for many years, unless its on the heavy duty trucks, but I don't think they even uesed them.

The transmission can be beefed up to hold quite a bit of power, but in stock form they are lacking. They also tend to have failures in some of the bands between 70k - 100k miles.

A c6 would be nice though... can't beat them with a stick.

The C4 was a 3 speed automatic, which has been long dead (for street use). Trucks , until the end of the 351M/400, used the C6 and contiued to use it w/ the 460 until the AOD took over. Your Mustang, however, has the 4R70W auto.

hey stanger00...so getting just a transmission cooler would be fine? Im only getting a stall like 400-500 over stock. Should i still get a trans cooler? Did the B&M 24k tranny cooler you have come COMPLETE for install?

400-500 stall above stock isnt really worth it. you should put the cooler on now. i run a 3200 or 3500 stall in mine and it barely break pedal stalls to 2300-2400. if i flash the converter than it will lock up at 3500 and the tires are roasting all the way till 40-50 MPH, 400 rwtq FTW. with that much stall the car still drives like stock but the creeping is sluggish.

get ahold of these guys they will set you up with a converter built to your cars needs. good converters cost between 700-1000 bucks....
