brake lines
 

I just ordered the stainless brake lines, and I am debating whether to install them myself or have the shop do it.

1. does anyone know if the AM kits come with the copper washers needed for the install

2. any good write-ups on this installation

If you dont have any provisions to bleed your brakes yourself then have a shop do the install.

Taking it to a shop to do something as simple as brake lines is a waste. It's nothing more involved than disconncting the lines at the caliper and flare and putting the new ones in. Just got to remember to work fast since fluid will be dripping out and cover the area so the stuff doesn't et your paint. To bleed, start from the furthest caliper (passenger rear) and have a buddy pump the brakes and when he holds it down, crack the bleeder open. Once fluid stops moving, close it and repeat until you don't see air bubbles.

that's what i figured. i don't think that the AM kit comes with the brass washers, so where could I get those?

If you need the banjo bolt too, might as well get the kit from FRPP.

Will i need a new banjo bolt? I figured I could just use the one already on there.

Well, if the lines don't come w/ new banjo bolts and crush washers, and you are putting Cobra/Bullitt/Mach 1 front brakes on, then yes, you need new bolts since the V6/GT uses banjo bolts w/ a different thread pattern and the FRPP kit is $12 for washers and bolts.

i just did this 3 days ago. You can reuse the stock banjo bolts but the stock copper washer have to be cut off or pulled off. I just cut mine with my dremel. The new lines come with washers so dont worry about that. I had to modify my stock rubber brake line holder as the am.com one was fully round where the stocker has a notch in it to fit the metal bracket for it. Again just used the dremel to knock some extra space in there. Other then that it was straight forward. A haynes manual or better yet a chiltons manual will do wonders for helping you along with basic car repairs if you have never done them before. I highly recomend getting one for your car if you plan to ever work on it yourself.
