Where is the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) located?
 

Where is the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) located? In the rims? On the Owner Manual, it says "If your vehicle is equipped with the tire pressure monitoring system, have the flat tire serviced by an authorized dealer in order to prevent damage to the TPMS sensor."

I was thinking to change the tires to Michelin Polit Sport A/S in Sears Auto Center, is it safe to do that?

PS. I'm thinking about the 05-07 Mustangs.

most tire sensors are inside the rim. thus the damage that can occur with a flat. but most tire shops deal with these, they've been around for a while.

If I have the tires serviced by Sears, how do I know the TPMS sensors are still working?

Lower the pressure in your tires below what is recommended. If nothing pops up to tell you this, then Sears damaged the sensor. However, do this by an air pump so you can pump the tires back up.

first tell them when you take the car in.. this way they are informed..
there should be no issues as all 2007 cars in the us are required to have them

Depends if the trust the zit-faced, $8 an hour kids that work at Sears LOL. If they break them, you can't really blame them.

If you are worried, just have the tires replaced by the dealer. My experience with dealers are that many of them are very competitive with tires. You can also buy the tires online at Tire Rack and have the dealer install them. Sears won't install tires from Tire Rack generally, because they want to sell you the tires, but delaers don't care. They are happy to get your $60 for the labor. Check with the dealer first.

go to the dealer. Dont you get warranty on the factory tires with the 07 models? I know its that way for cobras. If they wear out within the warranty the dealer replaces them. Maybe they can do something with that. Try to keep going to the dealer. Everytime you have it serviced, they log everything into the computer so you have all your service records there. If you want to sell the car you can get much more in resale if you have documented services regularly.

You also have to factor in whether or not the dealer does the service right. I've taken my car in to repair my parking brake and replace my headliner and they screwed up both times (hell, they didn't even replace the headliner the 1st time I took it in, not to mention they didn't mention the TSB on my trans). Tires and alignment are good but anything past that, either do it yourself or take it to a local guy. So the moral of the story is avoid the dealer, unless you have a friends who's a mechanic/manager working there.
