Used Clutch ?
 

I found the exact clutch kit I need on ebay, but it is slightly used. Being used, can it cause any issues? Thanks.

just being used isn't a source of issues but being on ebay is. Buying a used clutch is like buying used brakes. Will they work, maybe. And that's kinda the problem. If you're going to buy a used clutch at least stick to kevlar friction material. No organic, semi-metallic etc friction discs... Kevlar fabric at least doesn't really wear much. Kevlar/ceramic matrix's aren't good used either.

got a link to the auction? depending on the miles and how many hard drops it's taken it could well be a good buy.

Do they now make clutches with odometers on them?

I would never buy a used wear-part like this unless I knew the seller. Lots of labor involved making the swap only to find issues.

My kevlar is used but I helped install it and the owner was a good friend of mine... I know it had <1000 miles on it. He hated it. I loved it.

I would make sure you are getting the flywheel too.. I think if there is any wear pattern it would benefit you.

So I decided not to get the used clutch cause it went on ebay for like $20.00 less than a brand new one. I seriously dont know why someone would buy it for that much , being used.

Depending on the mileage and the condition of the flywheel, you should consider either resurfacing it or getting another one. Generally, the rule is you should get it resurfaced with a new clutch, but you can get by without doing it if it is ok and you break the clutch in well.

You should also definitely consider replacing the pilot bearing. It is a cheap part (pick it up from Randy). You would definitely hate to have to go back in there not long down the road just because of that.

Everything else is probably ok. Just make sure to inspect the clutch fork, pivot ball, and the shaft on which the TOB rides to make sure it isn't scarred up and such.

Trust me, if you are doing it yourself, pulling the tranny is not fun, especially if you do it for something stupid.

I've done clutches before but not on this car. I should be alright. I've got my pop's lift, tranny jack, and multitude of tools.

Yeah, with a lift it's not so bad. I guess doing it with the car on jack stands is not so bad either, now that I have done it so many times lol...

Thanks for the input on the pilot bearing. I just ordered it from Randy. I am going to surface the flywheel too. For $40.00 its not worth not doing it. Thanks again !

Resurface really necessary
 

I am doing my clutch tomorrow and need to know if a resurface of my flywheel is necessary or how to check if it is necessary. I would get it resurfaced but the problem is I have nobody near that could do it and that would mean my car would be out till next weekend. Any thoughts. Thanks.

If you are reusing the stock flywheel, it must be resurfaced otherwise you will have chatter problems. If you do not want to wait fo it to be remachined, you can get a stock replacement for slightly more than the cost of resurfacing.

My car has 18,000 miles on it. Is it necessary to resurface the flywheel, or is there a way to check it to see if it is needed. I am trying to avoid tying up my pops garage for 2 weekends cause I can only work on it during the weekends.

Also will my stock plastic quadrant hold up to the new centerforce clutch or should I be replacing that too? Thanks

every time the a new clutch goes on you gotta resruface it. And the stock quadrent will hold for awhile mine just broke after a few months with a spec stage 2.

Thanks Spike. I guess I'll go ahead and get it resurfaced and I just ordered a new steeda quadrant and firewall adjuster. This will work with the oem cable correct ?

yeah and the oem cable is the best cable out odnt go to a adjustable one they tend to break.
