Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 2

You might need a new O2 sensor

ShapeShifter 11-14-2006 06:24 PM

which one, a rear o2 sensor?

Icefreezen 11-15-2006 08:12 AM

99% sure it's driverside and if it's upstream which it is I'm pretty sure its the one before the cat

whitethunder46 11-15-2006 08:37 AM

you must have an aftermarket mid pipe.

Icefreezen 11-15-2006 08:45 AM

He has a O/R pipe.

Gotcha. If you have been thinking of getting an Xcal or any tuner, you can also turn them off using that. Just an added incentive to get one ;)

Thats whats strange though.....on the O/R pipe you need MIL eliminators or you need to shut them off with a tuner. The O2 sensor thats throwing the code is the one that NEEDS to be there the fronts.

Hmmm... Well I have catted SLP Xpipe and I threw both bank 1 and 2 codes because of flow. It basically was throwing this because the 2 pre-limenary cats were eliminated due to the SLP Xpipe. We by-passed this w/ the tuner. I don't have MIL eliminators, since I have catted pipe, correct? My 02 sensor's were just picking up the extra carbon or whatever it is to throw the a/f off.

I have a catted pipe too but had mine shut off in the rear just for the fact I wont have to pay for them when they crap out:Woot: . But thats not the point.

There is a upstream and downstream trouble code and the one he is throwing is the one in the front. The codes you threw are probably both the downstream which is past the cats he is throwing the one beofore the cat or the one in the front.

You would still be able to turn that off with a tuner however.

BUT, I don't know what to tell him since he doesn't have one. I don't know what to do then.

hmm k,i have an O/R Pipe,i have my rear o2 sensors shut off of course,so i have to repair the one prior to the cat(ie front passenger o2 sensor)...? how much will that run me?

Bank 2 should be drivers side....and a 02 sensor should run for $40-50. I recommend you change both out while your under there

ShapeShifter 11-15-2006 10:29 AM

hmm not too bad...and how does this usually happen, how do these o2 sensors go out...? ohh and where would be the best place to buy one?

I dont know where the cheapest place but any local autoparts store should have them. They go out usually due to carbon build up and can go out after time.

The reason why you should change it before it fails is when the oxygen sensor fails, the computer can no longer sense the air/fuel ratio, so it ends up guessing. Your car performs poorly and uses more fuel than it needs to.

ShapeShifter 11-15-2006 10:46 AM

is this a good one to buy...?

It will be fine but i'd take a run down to your auto parts store and see what they have because your going to be paying more with that shipping charge. It may be $49.95 at your store and that saves you $10:Woot:

ShapeShifter 11-15-2006 10:50 AM

true, thanks for all your help man!!

ShapeShifter 11-16-2006 09:27 PM

I'm pretty sure it will work but i'm not sure if the connections will reach. But it's worth a shot

Im surprised Randy hasnt came in here yet. Do not replace your 02's with anything besides Ford parts. Get new 02's from him.

03gtmustang 11-16-2006 09:57 PM

Not sure why, never asked. I guess they just arent good quality. But Randy knows his shit, so I listen.

Icefreezen 11-16-2006 10:05 PM

ShapeShifter 11-16-2006 10:11 PM
