03 Mach 1 Upgrades
 

Hey guys,
(This is about an 03 Mach 1) I am sure this has been asked about a thousand times, but he wants to mod the car, of course. I told him to get control arms, subframes, and springs, shocks, and struts to get him out fo the hole better.
He doesnt want to mess with that crap, and i think its because he is just coming out of an sr20 240sx, so hes an ex-turbo-whore, and is used to power from a roll. anyways, what basic bolt ons are good with the Mach? I know there are cams, and SC's and turbos available; but those may be a bit much.
He is looking to get into the 12s, and consistant 12s, without drag tires, forced induction, or nitrous; and keep it daily drivable.

Any ideas? Currently it is stock, down to the filter, besides the slomaster exhaust :nono:

well you've eliminated pretty much everything but a CAI, exhaust (X pipe or H pipe), tune and 4.10 gears. so.. there you go.

what about a TB, intake manifold, intake spacer, headers, mid-pipe w/ hi-flows, etc. I have a 4-bank SCT i would give to him, since I am running a twEECer RT now. How much of a difference would a tune make for a stock mach1, or with minor mods? ... would any of this accomplish 12s?

tb is about a waste of time. the one it has is plenty. intake spacer is worth a few but costs more than I consider it worth. headers... long tubes or nothing. If you want to spend 1300 bucks on longtubes and install... have fun. A bassani X has been known to put out 10hp+ on machs. Bassani mid-length headers closer to +15. A good tune with the above would certainly have him well in the 300rwhp+ area which with a good driver ought to be plenty to do very high 12's on 4.10's. Still needs subframe connectors and lca's or it's gunna launch crappy.

what do you think he would be at (whp/wtq and quarter mile) with the following:

C&L TruFlow Inlet Pipe
(Slowmasters that he has now)
8" K&N Filter
Intake Spacer (do you think he needs it?)
Underdrive Pullies
Predator Tune (should he use the Predator, or use the SCT 4-bank and get it dyno-tuned? He wants simplicity, and "[doesnt] want to mess with it")

There are lots of people who went 13.1-13.3 in bone stock mach's so 12's shouldn't be hard at all.....it's just where in the 12's does he want to be.

a catback, mid-pipe, CAI and tune will get him close or right around 300rwhp, which is plenty of power. I would tell your friend if he adds the basic boltons like exhaust to get a tune ASAP because his car will be running very lean...
4v's are pretty damn sensitive compared to the 2v's. Also, 4:10's will do wonders for the car, but if he really wants to rip off some sweet 1/4 times he needs DR's.

I kinda agree about the TB, I'm not really sold on Accufabs TB for mach's and 01 cobras. There was so many problems with them a representative from Accufab started posting on the mach 1 registry in order to address some of the problems. I guess they have a new batch of them out that fixed the problem. Anyway, I think a couple of guys reported a 7rwhp & 11rwtq gain from the TB. I don't know if it's worth $400.

As for the Intake spacer....I just installed mine last weekend and I noticed some gain, but haven't put the car on the dyno to prove it. Lot's of mach owners say its the best "bang for buck" mod you can get, but I don't know.

what have you done in the quarter mile?

NO ON PULLEY'S for mach's....the car already comes with Ford's version of performance pulley's and LOTS of mach's have reported oil pump failure after doing a pulley swap.

As for the Diablo Predator, don't bother. Go with SCT Xcal2 if possible. I would also stay away from "canned" tunes. If I were to have just used my canned predator tune my A/F would have been so high that I would probably would have blown the engine up.....put the car on a dyno and get a custom tune, it will be worth it.

Your friend sure sounds lazy....Making a fast car takes time, effort and money....if he wants everything to be "easy" then he should get a Lambo or something....ha ha ha

He is lazy, but cautious. He is coming from a 240SX with a swap and a bunch on non-sense done. His 240 pulled and held on a Yamaha R6 from a roll. I've seen what it has done to modded 03 Cobra's...not pretty(from a Mustang point of view). He had so many bad experiences in the 240 with shops and things going wrong that he is a little afraid to do major upgrades to the Mach. Its part of the reason hes getting rid of the 240 and got the Mach. He loves the Mach but he wants to be as fast as possible with just bolt-ons. He is hoping for high 12's but not expecting it. He does not want to take any chances in screwing up the car, he drives it daily, and does not want it to be in the shop constantly.

parts breakage is part of racing. nobody ever said it was cheap or easy.

I hear ya....I was the same way since it is my daily driver....but if he just sticks to the minor stuff like I've done he won't have any problems. So far it's been a damn fun can and it holds it's own very well.

I can't find the video, but there is a guy on the resgistry that turned out a 12.5 1/4 with only mid pipe and DR's....everything else was bone stock. I'll try to find it

He just does not want to encounter the same problems. Its not breaking the parts its getting the stuff done. Like tuning, he wants it done right the first time and done quick. his 240 took forever and was not done properly. it went to 2 different shops before being close to done right. He knows breaking things happen, hes used to that with an 89 240 lol

just tell him to do some research before hand and things will be fine.

yea...that would be nice..cause there are alot of great tuners and mustang specific shops..i will only take my cars to mustang/modular performance shops after i get some major parts on

there are many places that he can go to get his car tuned and places installed....theres MPH, Steen Racing, Lund Racing, JDM performance (i thnk)

they do but they arent full length and arent as nice quality as steeda or MM

Yep, mine came with subframe connectors, but they are not full length and are bolted on rather than welded.....not even close to quality as MM or steeda

bolt on subframe connectors are as good as none at all. weld on or nothing. It's worth the hundred bucks installed.

I agree with what everyone said. CAI, exhaust, DR's, gears and a tune will get him into the 12's no problem. With just an intake, mid pipe, catback and a tune, I was running 13.1's. Now that I have my rear built with 4.10s I have to take it to the track to see how she does.
