not so good sound!

ok so recently my car has been making this noise when i accelarate around 2000 - 3000 rpms its like a klunk klunk klunk klunk. and now today i stated the car then and then i hear a nother klunk noise right befor the engine starts:(.
today im going to a shop to have my tie rod replaced and i will have the guy check it out but what do you all think it is.... it cant be denotation cuz i always run 93 octane in it. and the filter is clean and the maf is clean. and i haven't ran it hard for a long time.

any one have some input

does the sound increase in frequency with the engine rpms or just make a clunk clunk clunk?

could be anything from a bad rod bearing to a loose exhaust. Gotta gimme some more info.

basically when i accelerate it will make the noise but when the engine is at a steady rpm it doesnt make the sound. it only sometimes makes the clunk when i start the engine up. when i have the clutch engaged and rev the engine it doesn't make the clunking noise. its weird like to day it wasn't doing it that much. at first i thought it was the transmission. and my dad thought its a mount for the engine or trans. he thought that cuz of the "clunk clunk" sound it made when the engine turned over and started.

exhaust hitting something? Check to make sure you have at least 1/4" clearance on all exhaust piping and mufflers to surrounding parts. LMK if you find anything.

well i looked under there and there is one point where the x pipe is taping the place where the trans crossmember meets the body. i fixed that but i still get the sound when the car is in the low rpm ranges.

could be a loose cat shield, a broken cat, a motor mount going south (causing other stuff to rattle), or just excessive motor shake at low rpms. Does your car have an aggressive-ish idle or does it idle smooth with no real motor shake?

red281gt 10-25-2006 09:45 AM

it idles smooth. and at idle it doent make a noise.

r3dn3ck 10-25-2006 12:09 PM

you got me. i give up.

red281gt 10-25-2006 12:13 PM

might it be the tranny or clutch? cuz now it sounded like the clunk sound speeds up as the rpms and mph rises

red281gt 11-01-2006 11:01 AM

had it checked out and they said it's the transmission
