Engine Addtives (IE slick 50 etc etc)
 

So are there any recommended additives I should be using? Fuel, transmission, oil or anything else?

Ive heard slick 50 clogs up the oil filter or some such. Anyhow any incite would be appreciated.

Stay away from all of that stuff. It is not needed. Just use a good quality motor oil, some fuel injector cleaner on pcassion, and if you are feeling daring, Sea Foam has a nice lineup of products to clean things up pretty good. But, most do not even use Sea Foam and it is not something you need to do that often.

That stuff really isnt needed on a regular basis. I run two bottles on mine every year. Once when it comes out to clean the fuel system out because it sits over winter, and one about a month before it goes away to help clean it out as well. Id say run it once every 3rd oil change for a fuel additive to help clean your injectors. Gunk makes an engine flush which is really good. I havent used it on my mustang but ive ran it in my other vehicles. You put it in your oil 5 minutes before an oil change and let it run idle-not driving. It helps flush carbon buildup then you change your oil. i had some great results with it.

Those oil additives always sound like a good idea to me; the concept makes sense, but I have never seen an independent study showing that they actually do anything.

Ive used GUNK engine flush in my other cars and my beater but not my mustang. Ive noticed good results. Id say try it out but with your luck, youd kill another engine. lol

i use Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. that stuff is great you sub one qt of oil when you do a oil change. it raises the oil pressure and keeps the engine from dry starting. good stuff! and it's 100% petroleum so it doesnt have any detergents or other stuff in it to harm anything in your engine.

only stuff i ever used was restore v6 and v8 version. my ex ex ex g/f from highschool had a tired ass 84 305 z28 it burned oil ran like shit etc.. after a year of running restore v8 it had almost spec compression and almost totaly stopped burning oil (cant fix leaking valve seats). I would recomend that for high mileage motor that are starting to go. over time it does make it run better and smoke less. the car got an extra 2 mpg too. and the only difference was the restore the car was the same other then that.

DO NOT put any "snake oils" into your mustang. Meaning slick 50, lucas oil stabilizer, or anything of the sort! Those types of oils are designed for old worn out engines that have bad seals. Lucas oil stabilizer is so friggen thick, it slows your engine down and causes unneccesary drag. Youll get worse gas mileage. Restore will raise compression a bit, and itll feel like a bit more power, but im telling you dont use it. Especially dont use any sort of motor flush. Just change your oil like normal and your car will last. If you want to protect your engine during startup, turn the key just enough to where it cranks over, but doesnt start. This will push oil up onto the internals and keep you safe from dry starts. I do this everytime I let my car sit for awhile. Most importantly, let your car warm up for at least 30 seconds to a full minute and please dont get on it until the car is heated to normal operating temps.....
