i cant get this damn shifter off
i got a steeda tri ax shifter and im in the process of installing it but the stock shifter wont god damn come off the instructions say a "quick" blow to the base with a block of wood will break it free. and let me tell you they lied any suggestions would be welcomed cause i need to get this done soon
thanks |
sure , jack the car up on the driver side
take a screwdriver and hammer tap the side plate to the factory shifter this will break the seal i have a tri ax also ,i installed it monday. |
I pried mine of carefully...it was a bitch though.
|
i took a hammer...and used the nail puller thing on the back to pry it off...i hurt myself in the process tho..:breakdancesmilie:

yeah they're a pain, i did the same and went under the car with a big screw stick and a hammer and tapped the sh*t out of it, knowing the stocker was going in the garbage.
|
I just pried it off. I bent the whole thing over to one side and it popped right off. :Woot:
|
Pull it to the side. I got out of my seat and pulled towards me from outside of the car and it came right off. It took a little strength. You wont break anything.

Try a heat gun to heat it up and give it a blow or pry it. That's how I did it and it came off fairly easy. By the way, by heat gun, I mean one that blows hot air, not one w/ an open flame. I don't need to explain why not to use the other one right?

get some muscles? i had to take the stock shifter off of my friends 01 for him...and yes it was on there...felt like i almost pulled a muscle getting it off
|
Man I remember doing that to mine. I bought a set of crowbars and managed to get it off that way. The Steeda tech support guy actually told me to hit it with a 2x4 lol...
Either way, it is amazing once it is in... Enjoy! -Narsh |
i just pulled it once really hard and it came off.
|
Eat some Wheaties then give it a try. Ive installed 3 shifters with no issues might be my twin guns.
|
I just pulled and rocked it hard, and gave in a couple of whacks with my 28oz Eastwing.

Put the shift handle back on for more leverage, THEN pull to the side, and yes, you will probably cut yourself when it pops off and you hit the plastic bezel around the radio/shifter. Enjoy.

|
I had to pull the F*** out of mine to get it to come off... eventually got it though. Good Luck.
