Bad U-Joint
 

Just curious whats the symptoms of a U-joint going out? I've heard U-joints going out on other cars ranging from clunking noises to squeaking and vibrations accelerating and decelerating. Anyway to get under my car and tell?

On my old stang it when out at 145k and when in drive I would get really bad vibrations. I jacked up the car and moved the driveshaft with my hand and sure enough the ujoints were shot as they was alot of play in the ujoints. Replace it with an aluminum driveshaft which is way lighter than stock.

dont have the money just got a higher stall converter I might just replace the u-joints when i do the install if thats the problem...87k miles with lots of play might have done it just cant figure out if its the front or the rear

replace them both. It's not hard or expensive.

+1. If your going to do it, change them both. When mine went out on my truck, id get a loud squeaking sounds during deceleration. Sounds like a wheel bearing without grease in it to me.

I'm curious about this I got my brakes done. Bearings packed and still had a squeak. And now i'm starting to suspect it was the U joints the whole time.

I got wicked vibration at various wheel speeds when mine were going. I picked up on it being u-joints on accident... I had to have my DS shortened and when they balanced it they found bad u-joints. Before that I'd thought I had a seriously out of balance wheel or yet another problem with my old IRS (thank deity I switched back to a live axle).

on my 95 it would vibrate really harsh after 3K rpms, i would check yours out pretty quick since it's not safe. i waited a few days on mine, took it out and notice half of one piece going in to the slip yoke was GONE!!! and due to that i was able to take the snap rings out and take the u joint off of the yoke without a vise, shouldn't happen. It that would have came out while driving it probably would have made the car fly alittle or make some cool sparks.

It's really, super easy to change.

i know i almost crapped in my pants when i saw the bad ujoint.

So make sure you get that fixed asap if that's the problem
