4.10 gear
 

Finally getting my 4.10's installed on monday. Can't wait. My installer says that once the gear is run to temp. and let to cool down there really isn't a break in period if it's insalled right. I'll be using synthetic gear oil and a conditioner. What do you guys think of a break in period? Thanks Mtarte:beerchug:

My break in period was from the time i got them installed to the first time i hit the gas.

When i first had 4.10's installed in my f150 i didnt break them in. just before the two year mark i had my bolts back out of the ring gear and destroy over 700bucks in gears and posi and bearings and my diff cover as well. I was told by Motive gears that by not breaking them in and just driving them i heated up the gears alot which allowed them loosen the bolts up from the day i drove it home from the shop. It was just a matter of time before the bolts backed out. And they had thread locker on them.

When i had the rear end redone for another 700bucks at 4wheelparts here in orlando i wasnt allowed into my truck without them showing me the break-in setup and signing a paper saying i saw this and will do it. Needless to say the rear end is still in that truck and over 3 years old now...

Do yourself a favor and break them in. Its free and easy to do.

Then again maybe you will get lucky, unlike me.

Yeah, I'll probably be easy on it for a couple of hundred miles to be on the safe side UNLESS the time comes to not take it easy. You never know who's gonna pull up beside you and give you the LOOK.

Would driving for 10 mins on the highway to my Dad's house count as break in? Cause I remember lighting up the tires as I left his house that day pretty well. It amazed me how short my first gear got in one afternoon. ;)

I was told by MPH to give them a few hundred miles. I did.

Here's me though...I drive aggresively...but have never done a burnout in this car. EVERY other car/truck I have had saw burnouts. Just dont feel the need i guess.

I would break them in, atleast driving it here and there for a week before you romp on it.

Haha that's crazy, I'm getting mine installed on Monday too. Where are you getting yours done and how much are they charging you?

All you have to do is to drive the car for 45 mins. straight then let it cool down over night that what i did after i got my 4:10s install and that what the person that i took my car to said to do.

Gregs Imports in Evergreen S.C. is doing mine. Labor is $300 + gear oil and conditioner.
