Rear Rotors

The front rotors on my GT are nice and shiny the way they should be. But the rear rotors are showing rust on the outer edge and the inner edge.

Is this something I need to be worried about or is it a fix that can wait. My car stops fine, no sliping, no squealing.

I just had four new tires put on -is there any chance that the dealer could have screwed up my brakes during the job. I can't believe the service guys wouldn't have pointed it out and sold me a repair -which makes me think it started after I took the car home.

I seriously doubt a trip to the service shop caused instant rust on your rotors...maybe the pad doesnt hit 100% of the rotor and never gets rubbed on the inside and outside portions.

rust is normal for that. If there was rust where the pads contact, but you drive it all the time, that could mean they never touch for some reason, but rust on the outter edge or rust on your rotors after you haven't drove it in several days is normal.

Rotors in general are metal and rust. The entire surface can rust just by sitting.

Now, the edges that you describe is somewhat normal....a bit frustrating but normal.

I have had rust creep on rotors that was so bad it started to bevel the pads and eventually caused me to replace the rotors and the pads. They had 65k on them, so I was not too concerned, but about 30% of the surface what rusted.

Just keep an eye on it. If it is asmall area, it is no big deal.
