gear options??????

i am looking at buying gears and im trying to decide if i should buy 3.73 or 4.10's. my car is a daily driver that i take to the track every once and a while so i dont want to lose to much of my gas millege. i was wondering if the added acceration of the 410's is worth the higher rpm's on the highway. also i am planing on installing a 100 shot soon so which gear would work better with the nitrous?

i mostly go to 1/8 mile tracks

Welcome to the forums! What all mods do you have on your car now? We have a thread called the "Official Gear Thread" or something like that. Find it and read it. It basically tells you all you need to know about choosing gears.

I say 3:73s.......

my gas mileage hasnt changed a BIT since I put my 4.10's in a few months ago. and my NX kit is in the middle of being installed as I type this..

dont dear the gear!! 4.10s FTW

I've had 4.10s for almost a year in my daily driver. The gas mileage claim is all in how you drive the car. I can get the same gas mileage on the interstate as I did when my car was stock. (I use to drive 80+ everywhere, now I just drive 70 lol). The gas mileage did get a lot worse for me in stop and go traffic. For example if I go out on the weekend and just drive my car all through town SEVERAL times I can use a quarter tank of gas before its all done. I mean driving it all across town, through a ton of stop lights blah blah blah. But I still wouldnt trade the 4.10s for anything in the world lol. Sometimes I wish I could even go with 4.30s because I love them so much.

Just finishing up my second tank of gas with my new 4.10s and my new SCT tune and so far my gas mileage has IMPROVED! Now that is the sh**! And this last tank was a ton of freeway driving too!

I was a little scared about the 4.10s too because I didn't really know how they would be. My stang is a daily driver and I was worried that my gas mileage would go into the crapper because I had everyone around me, that did not have the 4.10 setup, telling me that it would. They are dead wrong. Don't go with th 3.73s IMO. I'm not dogging anyone with that setup, I just know I wouldn't have been happy with anything less that the 4.10s. "It feels fast" as it was quoted on one of the earlier threads! 80 feels like 100 to me because of the torque pull. I am running 3000 rpm at 80 where as before I was at around 2500. The good thing is that I now have killed out the drone I get from my Spintechs at 2500 rpm on trips!

My car rarely sees the track because there is nothing good close to me. So mine is strickly street right now. If you have other mods, I highly highly highly recommend getting the SCT tuner package with the gears. Saves you a bit of cash in the long run, plus you'll need something to correct your speedo anyways. The tuner really does make it feel like a manual.

First day I had them in (which was like last wednesday...yeah, two tanks since then but I have had to drive a lot lately :shifty: ) this pissy VW Jetta pulls up to me with these two kids looking like vanilla ice throwbacks and wants to race. I know it isn't great to run gears hard for the first 500 miles (fortunately that won't be too long now, haha) but I wasn't going to let that crappy car show me up. So we knuckle up to the line and the light hits green. They mash on the gas and burn a laughable amount of rubber. I let them get a car length or two ahead, then I just WOT the sh** out of my stang. Peel from 1st to second and spin the tires from second to third! And I am running 315s in the rear and those are some beefy tires to spin. I wouldn't rack it up as a top ten kill of all times since it was only a Jetta, but I did get to see what the gears can do! That torque multiplier is a b****!

To sum up...BETTER gas mileage, BIGGER torque multiplier, MORE FUN! :devil2: The car is now how I really expected it to be. And mine is a daily driver like I said and gas in California sucks a** in terms of price so I like to save when I can too! BTW I went with the FRPP 4.10s! One of my favorite mods to my car!

Go with 4.10's Especially on the 1/8 mile. You'll luv'em. Don't worry about the highway travel as you'll run around 2600-2800RPM @ 70-75MPH in overdrive.:pepper:

blackstang01 06-13-2006 08:14 AM

thanks for tha info. i will for sure go with the 4.10s.

StangMan04 06-13-2006 08:41 AM

i got 4:10s and i cant really tell they are there, but i got a automatic anyways so its slow as crap as it is. dont worry about gas mileage, if ur worried about that then get a honda.

3.73's I woudn't want to turn 3k on the highway...its all a matter of taste and preference...no one here is "right" about what you should use in YOUR car.

i run about 2k on the highway with my 4:10s personally. If I turned O/D off it would be at 3k though in 3rd.
