Estimate on a paint job

How much would you guys say is an average cost for an entire paint job on a stang? I've got a '99, but I'm getting a '00 Cobra R hood and that needs to be sanded and everything before being painted. How much would you think it would cost to have the hood prepared then everything painted? No special paint, I'm going from red to a glossy black.

i dunno...but for me to repaint my door the same color it was 400$ but then if i wanted it to blend in with the car it could have been another 300$...i hate ford

I'm not planning on taking it to Ford to have it done. I'll be paying out the ass if that's the case. I'm looking for a price that an average body shop would charge. Everyone I call says that I need to bring in the car and I don't have the time to drive way out somewhere to have it done.

You will get a lot of ranges. A good job might cost about $3,000. An awesome job could be $6,000+ especially of you pull everything out and sand blast....perhaps a lot higher.

How much prep is needed? Any body repirs? Do you want panels pulled off? Windshield removed? Engine pulled? You are changinf colors, so there is lot more involved too.

I have a friend who just painted his stang, and the paint alone was a few grand for special paint.

Best bet, take it in and ask. Just don't go cheap.

Damn, I didn't realize it would be that much. I am looking to change the whole body color, but I'm not having any repairs or anything. The body is in prefect condition, just a few paint scratches. Looks like I'm just going to have the hood match the body. How much would it cost to just have a hood sanded, primed, and painted to match the car?

My dad had his '95 GT convertible painted about 5 months ago and the body shop that he went to charged him $2000 for them to completely take the car apart (except the interior and engine) and take out EVERY imperfection, and spray it with OE Ford Black. They did an AWESOME job too. He's had a few cars painted there, so they kind of gave him a deal I guess, but the job was amazing.

I've been thinking about getting a Cervini's hood for my 93. I was quoted $350 to paint just the hood, or $650 to blend it into the fenders. I think I'll wait a while.

Doing a color change on a car is a very expensive deal when done by a quality body shop. The $3-6,000 guess is pretty accurate for a production shop. My father-in-law painted street rods and high end cars for over 60 years. His jobs were $10,000 to more-than-you-can-conceive-of. This is one of those areas where you get what you pay for.

Well for me If I install a new saleen body kit (which I am) I'm being charged 800 bux for all four pieces, perfect fitment, perfect paint match, prep, cost of paint, everything.

All said and done it will no cost me more than 1000 for 4 pieces from a very good and reputable body shop. Hope this helps.
