Is the 1999/2000 Mustang GT reliable?

Is the 1999/2000 Mustang GT reliable? I'm completely new to the Mustang, been a fan of german cars for the last 4 years. Now time for me to buy another car, my budget is 10,000.

One thing that concerns me is the reliability of that particular models. Anything I should be aware of?

Many thanks.:)

Parts are cheap, and easy to find. The aftermarket scene is the biggest in the world for our cars, so if you dont want stock, go bigger and badder with aftermarket. Reliability is great, and the engines are also easy to fix if something does go wrong.

You look like a long-time Mustang owner to me. Is it easy to do donut on that Mustang? What about a Mustang V6? If I can't get a low-milage GT, I may get the V6. Do you recommend the V6?

A low milage V6 or higher milage GT? If you were to choose between them, which one would you choose?

Lances03SVT 05-13-2006 11:34 AM

The higher mileage GT for sure.

well you could save money get a v6 and just add a used supercharger and be faster then a mildly modded GT. for alot less money.

Are donuts easy? Sure, but you are throwing money out the window by burning off your tires and you could also destroy your clutch packs in the process. Alls it takes is a half throttle dump and the wheel turned and your car will be spinning in circles.

Sounds like fun. I've been driving a FWD Jetta, always wanted to get a RWD car. I must do it at least once when I got the Mustang.:punk:

Do I need to use hand-brake when going donut?

MattJ 05-13-2006 11:50 AM

lol. no you dont need the handbrake for donuts.

Just throttle control, turn the wheel, and the car is going donut? Sound easy, but I have to try to see it myself.

What about drifting? Do I need to use handbrake? Maybe handbrake is for FWD cars?

MattJ 05-13-2006 11:57 AM

If you are asking these kind of questions, you shouldnt be doing any of them. You will wrap your car around a tree for driving stupid like drifiting or doing donuts...

With a car like a mustang gt, comes responsibility and self control. If you dont have it, youll probably get tickets, destroy or total your car, smash into someone else, or kill yourself for driving like that.

lol, donuts are fun...especially when getting new tires a week after neways :)

1982 mustang 5.0 05-13-2006 05:48 PM

GT nothing like the power of a V8

spike_africa 05-13-2006 08:34 PM

You dont need the hand break to do a burnout. the handbrake or e-brake (whatever you wish to call it) applys pressure to the back backs so on a rwd car it will not help you do a burnout donut whatever.
