What exactly are the stock gears in the '05 GT? This page has 4.10's for $189.00 + $20.00 shipping.

Manual is 3.55 and I think Auto is 3.73

Also, good ol' MustangTuning.com has 4.10's by Motive for $159.99 ($30.00 less) and FREE shipping.....

yobdab 05-11-2006 01:40 AM

yeah but the ones I listed are FORD genuine parts and MT has those slightly higher

Lances03SVT 05-11-2006 03:22 AM

All of the 05/06 Mustang's have 3.55's!!!

No they don't. Only the GT 5-Speed's have a final ratio of 3.55. The GT Automatic, V6 Manual, and V6 Automatic all have the same Final Ratio, but it is different than the GT 5 Speed. The number I gave of 3.73 maybe incorrect, which I indicated in my reply, but it is different than the GT 5 Speed.

I'll do some checking and see what it is.

RCTrucker7 05-11-2006 04:34 AM

2005 GT 5 Speed - Final Gear Ratio = 3.55
2005 GT Automatic - Final Gear Ratio = 3.31

2005 V6 5 Speed - Final Gear Ratio = 3.31
2005 V6 Automatic - Final Gear Ratio = 3.31

GT:
Manual - 3.55
Auto - 3.31

V6:
Manual - 3.31
Auto - 3.31

Thanks to such features as dual intake valves, variable cam timing, and Charge Motion Control Valves, the engine makes plenty of torque (315 lb-ft) and 300 hp at a delightful 6,000 rpm. And it gets there in a hurry, too, thanks to standard 3.55 gears (manual tranny only).

Tremec five-speed-manual transmissions are standard, with slightly different gear ratios for the V-6 and GT. The GT with a manual transmission has a 3.55:1 final drive ratio. The V-6 manual and either automatic have a 3.31:1 final drive ratio. The GT has a limited-slip rear differential where the V-6 does not.

That's funny.My wifes 06 V6 has 3:55's!!!!

Blk02stang 05-11-2006 02:08 PM

...is it possible Ford decided to change the '06 v6's to 3:55's as they changed the grills in them also?

Could just be the Pony package!!!

Codiddy 05-11-2006 09:16 PM

hmmm I have an 06 V6 with the pony package too, might need to go test this later to set the record straight.

Installing 4.10's what would that do to your warranty? :nono:

yobdab 05-12-2006 01:44 AM

I believe I will go for the 3.73 gears; 4.10 seem a little too much.

Big mistake. You won't notice much of a difference at all going with the 3:73's.

yobdab 05-12-2006 03:35 AM

I believe I have heard that the 3.73's autotrans would be comparable to 4.10's in man trans. is this wrong?

:poke:

Lances03SVT 05-12-2006 03:40 AM

An auto really need's the extra gearing.I've had 3:73's and they were a waste of money.

You have that backward's too.Alot of people say it the other way around.

Lances03SVT 05-12-2006 03:44 AM

Also with the 3v engine you will be fine with 4:10's.DON'T FEAR THE GEAR!!

80 mph on the highway I'm at 2.8 rpm's.Would be less with an auto.

it'd just get rid of your rear end warranty so if it ever went out or had a leak or something then you'd hafta fix it. But it'd still keep the rest of the warranty since everything else will be unaffected

Codiddy 05-12-2006 05:10 PM

so I wrote down what my speeds should be at a few different rpms with both 3.31 and 3.55 gears and then went out and tested it in my 06 V6. And i'm pretty sure it is geared at 3.55, because those speeds were all perfectly spot on with the gear calc. I have a stick shift, so i don't know if the 3.55 gearing would be because of that or the pony package. now i know if i ever do get gears i should get 4.10, because the difference between 3.55 and 3.73 would be like nothing.

yobdab 05-15-2006 02:11 AM

The thing about the 4.10's as I see it is the affect on first gear shift. I already seem to have a short shift to second and with 4.10's I think I would just skip over 1st and jump straight into second.
