Moody power seat

The power driver's seat in my 1999 GT works when it feels like it. It was a serious problem this morning when I left it all the way back and my daughter had to drive it.

Is this likely a bad switch or a loose wire? Do I pull the seat or just pull the switch to dig into the problem? Thanks.

Almost certainly have a short or a busted wire somewhere. That's goiing to be a PITA to figure out.

Get a volt meter and start testing wires. See if you're getting a full 12V to the motor. I'll bet you're either suffering from a broken wire/bad connection or you've got a wire grounding itself just a little.

If it's grounding itself you'll be seeing some battery drain in all likelihood. If it's a bad connection or a wire broken along the length then you'll have to find out where the problem is and make repairs.

I'd do like trnin says and get some racing seats with manual sliders. You'll drop 50-100lbs from the car and it's really a lot more comfy when you take corners hard.

my vote would be bad switch; or loose wire at the switch
