Slow 0-60
 

Tried my 0-60 today (timing myself so it prolly wasnt perfect) and got 5.6-5.7 in my Mach 1. Why is it so much slower than what some of the magazines have gotten (I've heard 4.7 in a stock mach). What is the best way to start out? I'm shifting fast between 1st and 2nd but not powershifting because i'm not going to abuse my car. I am really quick at shifting. Just wondering the fastest way for like 0-20, i believe that's what's killing my time. I was just starting out like i would normally take off at a stop sign until about 5mph, so that it wouldn't peel out, if i rev it up at all it would just peel out. tried with traction control on and off, times were close enough that you couldnt tell if it made a difference. Chirped the tires going into 2nd every time.

Dude, stock mach 1's dont go close to 4.7 in the 0-60. the 4.7 time is more close to the 97-04 corvettes who have 350 hp and weigh a few hundred pounds less. Basically, a 4.7 0-60 equals roughly a low 13 seconds car, and the mach 1 is more mid-13 which equals to be low 5 seconds in 0-60. 5.2 is the quickest I've ever seen a magazine run the mach.

And the guys who run them are professionals. Theyve run these cars their entire life. They test with lots of different launch rpms and feather the clutch perfectly. It also doesnt mean they could land low 5's every time, but thats just the best they were able to do. And I've also read from the magazines themself that they run the hell out of the cars to get those times. Think, hard launches and fast hard shifts, but good shifts. Chirping tires just means you didnt do a perfect shift

Or you could just get some 4.10 gears and i'll bring down your 0-60 a lot :)

There are lots of guys on the Mach 1 registry that pull 13.1-13.3 stock and lower with DR's....so the cars are capable of very low 13's and will run neck and neck with 97-04 vette's in the 1/4, but after that Mach's can't hang.....But I agree with you about drivers who are testing the cars for magazines. They are professionals and it's pretty hard to match their times if your not an experienced driver.

On the second page of the 5.0 magazine article it shows a stock Mach smacking around a 99 cobra and Bullitt in the 1/4 mile. It also shows a 1/4 time of 13.1 and 0-60 4.7 so it's possible, but you'd have to be a damn good driver.

they're also usually testing on a prepared track. You'll never get the traction of a prepared track from a stop sign.

I usually find an empty parking lot with a good surface condition, like where I work, and do a little warm up burnout (there's always a little stream of water running across one side which makes those easier on the tires) till the tires hook, then move up a bit and make my run. Launch from 2000rpm and shift hard. I'll leave some tire mark where I hit second but I don't get bad spin unless I'm on the street.

If you want sub 5 second 0-60, gut the thing and drop weight wherever you can.

Ive seen mach 1s pul 13.3 stock from the factory, no mods, with their owner.

Ditto... I've known guys around here to tag very low 13's in the 13.1-13.3 range right out of the box with just a K&N filter.
