To be a little more precise, a short block is usually a bare block with the crank and pistons installed. No cam or timing chain. A long block is usually a complete engine, less the accessories like the alternator and carb.

Best place to get shortblocks. Under 3 grand for a 700hp ready forged shortblock.

yeah, but if you get a short block its usually cheaper and you can reuse your heads and cams and chains , etc, everything, its more work but cheaper

well once you pay someone to swap over your stock heads and replace the necessary parts to do so.......it costs alot of labor and more time for the car in the shop. I want the MPH street strip longblock. Then you could buy a new intake for it and sell the old engine complete. I think you could sell a used motor for maybe $1000........enough to cover most of the labor for the install.
